Job Role
  • To lead, supervise, line manage and develop the Recovery and mentoring staff team of 5, to build a forward looking, dynamic and competent team within a culture of continuous performance
  • To manage and lead on the development of facilitating recovery communities, Community development, Assertive engagement, Single point of contact, Meet and greet, Single assessment and recovery planning framework, Recovery navigation, Core mentoring.
  • Take a community development approach in order to ensure that service users who have exited treatment are supported in developing and engaging with their own community to increase their own recovery capital
  • To provide a range of effective and creative interventions to support individuals’ pre, during and post-treatment needs focused on achieving sustainable recovery and integration
  • To proactively engage and support service users’ families and carers within service users’ recovery plans within local community settings
  • To work collaboratively with other services to provide interventions to support and motivate service users and meet their needs through all stages of their individual recovery journey.
  • To work in partnership with service users, treatment providers, community partners, stakeholders, and families/carers to develop innovative approaches to sustainable recovery in North Yorkshire, tailored to local need
  • To work within a strengths-based, recovery-orientated, change and outcomes focused approach which promotes service users and communities as responsible co-producers of health, well-being and recovery
  • Deliver services to agreed quality standards and good practice protocols, in order to provide the recovery and mentoring element of the North Yorkshire treatment services.
  • To develop and facilitate the recovery and mentoring element of the North Yorkshire treatment services.
  • Manage daily recovery service operations across two operational areas.
  • To work flexibly throughout North Yorkshire to support Recovery and Mentoring team when appropriate.

Job Responsibilities
Performance management
  • To manage and coordinate efficient and effective staff deployment within the Recovery and Mentoring Team, including volunteers and peer mentors, to provide adequate cover for all aspects of the service.
  • To provide professional leadership through: first line support; problem solving; leading by example; developing appropriate expectations, culture and values; embracing and implementing change.
  • To performance manage, at individual and team level, through: delivering contractual requirements, targets and outcomes; goal and task setting; and managing, monitoring and reporting progress.
  • To assess the impact of recovery and mentoring provision in contributing to recovery goals/outcomes.
  • To provide consistent systems of supervision, objective setting and induction.
  • To develop the team through coaching, engagement, communication, motivation, team building and delegation (including of lead roles).
  • To develop a collaborative, creative and flexible team, which is able to empower, challenge and change.
  • To develop staff to be competent to deliver the full range of psychosocial and other interventions required at the change and completion (recovery coordination) phases, through supervision, case reviews and matching training to job roles.
  • To develop robust and integrated data capture procedures to ensure effective recording of performance monitoring, outcomes and service user information including identifying areas of attrition.
  • To utilise service data to facilitate business decisions and reporting, locally and organisationally.
  • To ensure that risk management procedures (including child and adult safeguarding protocols) are consistently followed and that team members are fully informed of the requirements of these procedures.
  • To lead on areas of continuous improvement focussing on the quality and performance in the provision of recovery coordination within an integrated model of service delivery.
Service and business development:
  • To lead on specific areas of service development, projects or pilots, as agreed with managers.
  • To identify and report on service and locality relevant information and intelligence, including gaps in provision and opportunities, developing appropriate responses with managers.
  • To proactively engage and build relationships with local communities, external agencies/professionals to identify and build recovery resources and opportunities for individual and service development.
  • To ensure service users are provided with opportunities to consult on service development and to be involved in the development and delivery of services as appropriate.
  • To determine the nature and extent of treatment and recovery support that is appropriate to develop recovery capital and re-integration for service users and ensure that recovery navigation is being carried out effectively.
  • To establish community focus and development approaches to ensure that all individuals accessing the service have effective sustainable support networks in place
  • Ensure that all stakeholders are educated about the service provision in North Yorkshire.
  • To ensure that mutual aid programmes and groups are delivered within a range of community venues across North Yorkshire and understand the benefits of mutual aid on treatment outcomes.
  • To provide information and advice through the Single Point of Contact to service users, parents and carers, and professionals in North Yorkshire, such as referrals to available community services, information around the difference s between drugs and alcohol, explaining the assessment process and relapse prevention advice and support pathways.
  • Identify any needs for referrals for the service users to access other services relating to their ongoing health e.g. dentist, mental health, family services etc.
  • To educate services users about their rights and responsibilities around data protection and with whom their information is shared and how this will benefit them
  • To identify and support access to community resources to support recovery within the community.
  • To build and develop service users’ personal strengths, social networks and recovery capital (social, physical, human and cultural).
  • To record all documentation and case-notes to a high standard and within required time frames.
  • To support systems and structures that are responsive to the needs of individuals with different levels of risk, complexity, severity, and strengths.
  • To provide a range of flexible and effective psychosocial interventions (standard, enhanced and targeted) relevant at the change and completion stages in line with national guidance.
  • To ensure that service users maintain regular health checks including BBV and tuberculosis screening.
  • To fully inform service users about their recovery/treatment options, involve them in decisions about their treatment, obtain their informed consent for information sharing, and encourage them to take opportunities to achieve a sustained recovery.
  • To support ‘visible recovery’ within the service,focusing upon exit from treatment to service users, working with dedicated recovery individuals and information.
  • To develop innovative and engaging ways of showcasing recovery across North Yorkshire, organising local recovery events and stakeholder engagement activities and working jointly with local partners through community settings
  • To work collaboratively and proactively with other members of staff, volunteers and mentors to ensure that the recovery and mentoring service is delivering it’s outcomes in line with the service specification.
  • To effect the transition of service users into structured treatment and facilitate service user’s engagement into any and all community/recovery support upon discharge from treatment.
Performance and personal management:
  • To work flexibly to provide adequate cover for all aspects of the service across North Yorkshire.
  • To manage the daily operational provision of the recovery service
  • To engage with, work alongside and provide support and supervision to volunteers and peer mentors as required.

Qualifications /
  • NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care, and/or equivalent professional qualification (e.g. Health Care, Nursing, Social Work, equivalent overseas qualification).

Experience /
  • Experience working with socially disadvantaged and vulnerable individuals
  • Experience of operational management
  • Experience of supervising and developing paid staff or volunteers
  • Experience of leading on service development or initiatives to improve service delivery within a health and/or social care setting.
  • Experience of working as part of a management team, taking collective responsibility for meeting service objectives.
  • Experience of delivering services over a wide geographical area.
  • Experience in providing a range of evidence-based treatment interventions to support drug and/or alcohol users in a community-based setting.
  • Experience of Using performance data to drive service development

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities /
  • Experience of working in an environment that requires confidentiality
  • Ability to use basic Microsoft Office packages
  • Understanding and knowledge of the harmful effects associated with drug and alcohol misuse in relation to health, social welfare, housing, employability and personal relationships.
  • An understanding/awareness of current national policies on drug and alcohol misuse and the strategies that influence the priorities of treatment services.
  • An in-depth knowledge and understanding of the treatments and interventions available to people who use and or misuse drugs and alcohol.
  • A good knowledge of all aspects of mutual aid and the ability to develop or facilitate access to these groups.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the principles of good management practice in relation to the supervision, support, development and performance monitoring of staff as well as performance management within a service.
  • Knowledge of remote management techniques.
  • Knowledge and understanding of policies related to the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults and how these influence practice.
