RE: Transmittal of UCC actions on October 4th, 2013

I.Approval of Minutes from the September 6th, 2013meeting: approved unanimously on a motion by Elizabeth Olson and Robert Boostrom. Elizabeth Olson had a question about what is considered a quorum for this committee. Greg stated there a definition of quorum is not currently included in the Curriculum Handbook or in the University Handbook description of the UCC. Past practices were discussed, and it was agreed that and item should be added to the next UCC agenda to consider a formal definition of a quorum.

II.Announcements

  1. Greg Cook welcomed new members Ray Baus and Jenni Peterson. Tracy Arneson-Baker, Jillian Smith and Katy Heyningplan to attend from COEPS as non-voting guests. He introduced Becky Pfeifer, the new AVC office assistant. Members introduced themselves as roll call was completed.
  1. Greg explained that the Latin American Studies minor is now closed to new enrollment, effective 9-18-2013. This is in response to a mutual agreement made during the audit and review process. Enrollment will be reopened if and when the program is re-organized.
  1. Greg announced that the Provost and Chancellor both gave approval for the purchase of the CourseLeaf curriculum and catalog system. Greg noted that revisions to curriculum forms and procedures should be reviewed and in some cases revised or streamlined as our campus curriculum system is implemented into CourseLeaf. An implementation team might be needed. Greg suggested that committee members gather feedback and suggestions from their college curriculum committees that might inform revisions. Bob Leitheiser asked how long CourseLeaf had been in business and if they would have ideas on implementation of best practices and processes. Greg commented that CourseLeaf representatives will suggest best practices. Jody Hare-Paynter commented thatCourseLeaf implementation will start with our catalog side first, then curriculum.

  1. Additional Information

Greg reminded the committee that January 24 is the date of the UCC deadline meeting for proposals for fall 2014. In the past, the UCC deadline meetings for fall proposals had been held in the previous November. The deadline dates were extended to January to allow departments and colleges more time. Jodi Hare-Paynter emphasized that PeopleSoft, the catalog, schedule of classes, and AARs all need to be updated per proposals, and they now have less time on their end to accomplish all of this. To make this deadline extension work, it’s very important that departments and colleges please move proposals to the UCC as early as possible to avoid having an excessive number of proposals hit all at once in January.

Leitheiser moved to adjourn; Boostrom seconded. Motion passed unanimously, and the meeting ended at approximately 2:53 pm.

Respectfully submitted:

Becky Pfeifer
