EXAMINATION INVIGILATORS
(Casual Staff)
Varndean College is now recruiting to its existing team of exam invigilators to oversee and supervise students during the summer 2017 exam period. As part of our pool of invigilators you may also be called upon at various times of the year to assist us with exam invigilation.
The summer exam period runs from Monday 15thMay – Friday 30th June (excluding half term Monday 29th May – Friday 2ndJune). You will need to be available for the key exam periods from Monday 15th May – Friday 16th June.You will work a morning or an afternoon session, or both if you prefer. The crucial dates (when all hands to the pump are required) are:
Thursday 25th May (am)
Tuesday 6th June (am)
Thursday 8th June (am)
Monday 12th June (am)
The role of invigilator involves supervising examinations according to examination board Regulations, distributing question and answer papers, ensuring that the students enter and leave exam halls calmly, and dealing with student queries. Invigilators are expected to approach the job in a serious and professional manner with emphasis on punctuality and reliability. They should also have the ability to communicate effectively with people.
The post is paid at a rate of 7.90 per hour (inclusive of holiday pay). Hours will vary depending on the number of examinations and the number of students taking these exams each day.
All invigilators are required to have an enhanced criminal records check (DBS disclosure).If you have not got one of these, the college will process one for you.
If you are selected to join the team, you will be required to attend a mandatory paid training/induction session on either Wednesday 26th April or Friday 28th April at 2:30 pm.

Purpose of Job:
To ensure the fair and proper conduct of examinations in accordance with all official regulations and college policy, in an environment that enables all students to perform in an examination to the best of their ability.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
  1. To closely follow and enforce exam procedures and regulations
  1. To assist in the organisation of students and their entry into the exam room
  1. To assist with setting up exam venues by laying out stationery, equipment and exam papers in accordance with strict procedures
  1. To ensure that all candidates are correctly identified
  1. To assist candidates prior to start of examinations by directing them to their seats and advising them about possessions permitted in examinations venues
  1. To ensure that candidates do not talk once inside examination venues
  1. To invigilate exams in accordance with the ‘Conduct of Examinations Regulations’ supplied by the awarding bodies
  1. To deal with queries raised by candidates
  1. To escort candidates from venues during the examination as required and supervise them whilst outside examination venues
  1. To assist in the collection of scripts and dismissal of candidates
  1. To supervise candidates leaving examination venues, ensuring that candidates do not remove equipment or stationery from the venue without authorisation and ensure that candidates leave venues in an orderly and quiet manner
  1. To undertake such other duties as may reasonably be required to ensure the efficient and effective running of examinations
  1. For exams in the hall or gym, one person will be required as a Lead Invigilator for each exam. It is their duty to ensure correct exam procedure is being followed, and that invigilators are supported and advised. (Paid at a higher rate)
