RE: Fall use of high school 90’fields

In working with the high school DSA’s, we have been able to increase community use of high school baseball fields to include nearly every high school in Fairfax County. We anticipate 100 % participation with the exception of a few schools that are closed by school maintenance due to renovation projects.

As you know, a number of high schools use the baseball field in the fall for their field hockey programs. Many have been reluctant to give up their baseball fields for community use due to concerns about the negative impact it could have on their field hockey teams using the field. They do not want trash left, bleachers and benches moved, teams warming up while field hockey is going on, and general field damage (field hockey absolutely requires a smooth surface).

If we are going to be able to use these high school fields, then it is critical that the teams assigned to the field pitch in and help keep the field ready for field hockey use. Therefore, please pass the following info on to your coaches and emphasize how important it is for them to do their part.

1.  Put all bleachers and benches back in their original place for use by field hockey.

2.  Pick up all trash (dugouts, stands and area around the field).

3.  Please fill in holes at the mound and all bases.

4.  Do not show up early and try to take infield practice or batting practice while field hockey games and practices are going on.

If everyone pitches in and does their part, then the cooperation between community groups and the high school teams can result in successful use of the facilities by both groups. If any community group does not do their part, they run the risk of losing the facility for all community groups. Teams that do not comply with the above will be cancelled from use of the field.

Thanks for your efforts.
