Re 9U Travel Team Tryouts {birthday 5/1/08 – 4/30/09}

ARA is pleased to announce an opportunity for competitive Cal Ripken Tournament Team travel baseball to boys in the 9U age division. Tryouts for this group will be Saturday April 21st(5pm – 7pm)and Friday April 27th (6pm-7:30pm) both on field C. Interested players must make at least one date, but are encouraged to attend both sessions. The 9U travel team will be selected [11-12 players] based on the tryouts and observed performance during the regular recreational season. Input about players may be provided by head recreational coaches to assist in the final team selections. There will be a brief parent meeting at 4:45pm on Saturday, April 21st- adjacent to C field. If enough players attend the tryout session, there may be an opportunity for a 2nd travel team to form.

The team will practice, scrimmage, and play tournament games from May thru July. Practice will vary from 1 to 3 times per week, depending on tournament games and schedules. The tentative dates for this team’stournaments are as follows:

June 16-17SFYAL Summer Slam Father’s Day 9U Invitational

June 21-24Upper Perk 9U Invitational

June 27-July1 PA District 7 Cal Ripken Tournament [Central Perk] {exact times tbd}

And..

F-Sa-Su-M-TWeekend of July 13thPA State [NW] Cal Ripken Tournament ***confidential***

ARA is pleased to announce that we submitted applications and were awarded the HOST SITE for both the 9U and 11U state tournament [same weekend]. Therefore, although we will not be sleeping in a hotel in western PA/MD, as parents of the team we will be living at the fields leading up to the state event and expected to be “all hands on deck” during the event.

Parents of children making the team will be required to pay the costs of uniforms, umpires/balls, and tournaments entered. Projected costs will be reviewed during the parent meeting, but will be estimated at $150 for fees and $100 for uniforms. These tournaments are more competitive than our rec league. Substitution rules are much different than our local ARA rules and include specific restrictions to number of pitches thrown by pitchers. Equal playing time is NOT guaranteed. If you have any questions about this, it is your responsibility to discuss it with the head coach before accepting a spot on the team, if offered. That being said, we are committed to developing all team members’ baseball skills and to an enjoyable summer of competitive baseball.

An extensive time commitment is required from all players and parents. Players are expected to attend all the practices and games. The Audubon Travel Team must be your child’s priority over any other sports team during the calendar period. If you have a planned vacation/days away, we need to know those dates as soon as possible. Vacations during this period will play a part in determination as to who makes the teamand number of players on the squad. Should you have ANY time planned away for May, June, or July, please indicate those dates on the next page. ARA reserves the right to remove a player from a team for failure to disclose this information prior to the player selection process.

All players attending the 9U tryouts must have a parent’s signature below and bring this page with them to the first tryout.
