From: 2016MHS Student Council

Date: September 1, 2016

Subject: Homecoming Parade Guidelines

Homecoming 2016 will be on Friday,September30th against the Little Axe Indians. The MHS Student Council has chosen “Home Sweet Homecoming” as the theme for the parade this year.

As in the past, there will be a $5.00 (five dollar) entry fee and form to fill out for floats. All entry fee money will be used to buy plaques for the first, second, and third place secondary campus winners and for the first and second place elementary winner. Winners will be announced at half-time of the homecoming game and the plaques will be engraved and given to the winners ASAP. Entry fees, float entry forms, and permission forms for all who walk or ride MUST be turned in to Mrs. Hodde ON or BEFORE Friday, September23rd by 3:00 p.m.

Float entry forms and permissions forms for the secondary campus may be picked up in the following locations: High School West Office, High School East Office, Junior High Office, or Mrs. Hodde’s room (RM3). Forms will also be available in the Intermediate and the Elementary School Offices.

Just as last year, because of the safety issues concerning students riding floats, we will again limit the number of students who can ride on a float. **THIS DOES NOT EFFECT THE FOOTBALL TEAMS, CHEERLEADERS SQUADS, OR OTHER TEAM SPORTS(SOFTBALL, BASKETBALL,BASEBALL, SOCCER, ETC. THAT WANT THEIR ENTIRE TEAM TO RIDE ON A FLOAT. The floats this DOES effect are class floats, organizational, and group floats. These floats are limited to 6 riders and 1 driver. Other class, group, or organizational members who wish to participate may walk behind their designated float.

ALL MOTORIZED VEHICLES MUST HAVE AN ADULT EITHER ONTHE FLOAT OR IN THE VEHICLE. EACH SPONSOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE BEHAVIOR OF THE STUDENTS IN THEIR ORGANIZATION. THERE ARE TO BE NO MOTORCYCLES OR THREE OR FOUR WHEELERS IN THE PARADE. ANY DANGEROUS BEHAVIOR WILL LEAD TO ANY POSSIBLE DISQUALIFICATION.

Permission forms must be turned in for EACH student in the parade. This DOES include teams, cheerleaders, groups, drivers, riders, walkers, etc. EVERYONE in the parade must have turned in a Permission Form to Mrs. Hodde ON OR BEFORE FRIDAY, September23rd. These forms will be given out to you for each participant or you can pick them up in the locations listed above.

SPONSORS-because of some potentially dangerous activities on the floats, we are requesting that you write a description on the back of the entry form telling what the riders’ roles are and what actions why will be doing while riding the float. Also, if any members or classmates are walking, describe the actions or activities they will be doing as part of the float entry. This will just help to prevent a possible injury or accident involving participants. WE HAVE BEEN ASKED THAT NO CANDY, GUM, OR ANYTHING BE THROWN DURING THE PARADE, AS THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE CONCERNING THE LITTLE KIDS. ALSO BE AWARE THAT ABSOLUTELY NO WEAPONS SHOULD BE USED AS PROPS. Thank you in advance for you cooperation.

Spirit week details will be announced and posted the week before an during homecoming week. Throughout the week of homecoming, each day’s spirit attire will be announced and students who participate will be awarded to the lucky names drawn. All students and organizations/groups are asked to show your school spirit throughout the week by dressing up.

The parade will be on Friday, September30thand will start between 2:00 and 2:15 from the McLoud Veterans Park across from the Intermediate School. Please drive your float up to the west gate where a MHS Student Council Member will direct you where to go. A Student Council Member will tell you what NUMERICAL order your float should line up; beginning with float #1 exiting the east gate. A student will hand you a numbered sign to attach to the pickup driver’s side door so that the judges will know what number they are judging and placing as you drive by. In the past, the judges have had trouble evaluating floats because they were traveling for too fast in the parade. To eliminate difficulties in judging, PLEASE make sure to line up in the correct numerical order (the Council officers will give you a parade lineup listing) and travel at a slow rate of speed.

The student council will also be hosting its 20th annual Tailgate Party Cookout a the football parking lot from 5:30 until ?? We hope you’ll come by and eat a hamburger and/or hotdog and drink a pop with us before the game. Come back for seconds during the game if you get hungry! Thank you for supporting your MHS Student Council.

We hope to make this one of the BEST AND MOST FUN HOMECOMING CELEBRATIONS EVER and we are looking forward to your participation. Any suggestions would be welcomed and appreciated. THANK YOU!
