POST: RESOURCE CO-ORDINATOR/LIBRARIAN
37 HOURS PER WEEK TERM TIME + INSET
Hours 8:00 am-4:00 pm (Monday-Thursday) 8:00 am-3:30 pm (Friday) (Half-hour lunch break)
LEVEL 6 scp 21-25 £19,939-£22,434 pro-rata

Job Purpose
· To effectively manage the library on a daily basis, to include stock management, student supervision and provision of assistance to all library users.
· To develop strategies to foster a love of literature and reading, including material beyond the examined curriculum.
Responsibilities
· Promote quality literature and authors, including the arrangement of appropriate author visits and other events that promote reading for pleasure.
· Ensure that the Library is multifunctional and a focal point for student learning, maintaining a quiet, calm reading environment for students.
· Deliver induction for new students providing an overview of the library and the resources.
· Provide a Department Improvement Plan.
· Manage library budgets and library stock.
· Be responsible for the research and purchase of resources that are current and reflect the needs of students and staff, investigating quality and value for money.
· To ensure the stock of library resources (both paper and electronic) is managed effectively on a daily basis and particularly placing orders for new stock, checking, classifying and cataloguing new items, dealing with the condition and repair of returned items.
· To organise the resources effectively and to use display material and other resources to enhance accessibility and attractiveness of the library for information retrieval and leisure use.
· Sustain a high level of personal professional knowledge and development and keep informed about current literature for young people.
· Be informed and proactive about current curriculum developments and objectives; liaise with Subject Leaders to determine appropriate curriculum resources; promote available resources to relevant staff and students.
· Manage and maintain Accelerated Reader, the programme for developing students reading and use of the library.
· Lead Accelerated Reader lessons. This includes meeting, seating and registering students, managing behaviour, filling in students’ reading logs and delivering reading activities as appropriate.
· Monitor student progress using the Accelerated Reader programme. Produce termly reports for class teachers in line with each year group’s Data Capture Points.
· Work alongside class teachers to identify, intervene and evaluate interventions with students who are at risk of failing to progress in matching their chronological age and reading age.
· Manage and run a before and after school homework club
· Participate in activities to promote wider reading
· Keep the library tidy and attractively displayed and ensure an inviting, stimulating and attractive learning space.
· Provide support to English and other lessons in the Library.
· Support the educational aims and objectives of the school and ensure that the library contributes to learning and teaching.
· To promote the library and its resources and services to staff and pupils.
· To develop the information retrieval skills of pupils and staff to allow them to access information effectively in both electronic and paper form.
· To liaise with all departments in the academy to ensure appropriate access to learning resources and to liaise with School Library Service, School Library Association, Softlink, local library and other organisations to maintain professional development and establish links.
· To develop and supervise student librarians.
General
· To supervise and help individual pupils that are working in the library and ensure that appropriate discipline is maintained within the academy’s policy.
· Be aware of, and comply with, policies and procedures relating to child protection, health and safety, confidentiality and data protection.
· Support the wider administration team as required and undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade of the post.
· Perform other relevant tasks as directed by the Senior Leadership Team.
