Subject: My First Shift as Charge Nurse on 5North Night Shift

Good Morning,
I would like to thankall of thestaffwho helped me during my first shift as charge nurse on 5 Northlast night, the shift beginning on 9/26/12.
I am greatly appreciative of the help Michelle Shadle, the nursing supervisor, and Christine Pickering, 5N's charge nurse gave through the night. They were able to answer every question I had and gave assistance whenever it wasrequested without hesitation.
I am thankful for the help Linda Hopkins and Mariann Searcy gave by offering to stay a few minutes after the end of their shift to help discharge a pair of patients andto get me going in the right direction from the very beginning of the shift. Thankfully, I was able to maintain the momentum they helped me establish.
Thanks also to Mary Debroux, who called me from her other place of employment at the beginning of my shift to offer herself as a resource if I should have hadany questions. Although I had sources at SFMC who were geographically closer to me and more convenient for me to utilize, I was thankful for Mary's offer and glad I had the support of another experienced and dedicated nurse should I haveneeded it.
I would like to thank Molly, Sheila, Kim, and Stephanie, the 5N nurses, for their patience and cooperation with their new charge nurse. They kept me informedregarding their patients conditions and showedgreat work ethic throughout the night. Jennifer Bias and Kimberly Christian were excellent as CNAs and were happy to repeatedly give help whenever I needed it without any complaint whatsoever.

We had a very busy night, including 5 admissions and 2 discharges, and the shift would not have endedso well (all things considered) withouteveryone's hard work. The patients were kept safe, and I feel positive health outcomes were acheived. I am fortunate to work with all of you. Again, thank you all for your help!
Best wishes, Alex Jung, RN, BSN
