SENIOR FRIDAY NEWS LETTER ~October 14, 2016
Hello Seniors & Senior Parents,
We hope that you had a great short week/half day today!
A few things to consider:
TRANSCRIPT REQUESTS:Remember to request your transcripts on Naviance a minimum of ten school days before the transcript needs to be sent out. Directions for requesting transcripts are in your Senior Plus Block Packet.
GAP YEAR: Not sure “what’s next” or that college right after high school is right for you? If so, a gap year might offer a unique opportunity and be a good fit. As with any major commitment, there are lots of pros and cons to consider. Check out some gap year programs here: . Also, be sure to sign up for your senior meeting so your counselor can support you. The CHS Counseling Department does not endorse any specific gap year programs.
COMMON APP: Many students have asked how to fill out the “Grades” section of the Common App; please answer as such:
· Class Rank Reporting: None
· Graduating Class Size: 355
· Cumulative GPA: Your personal GPA
· GPA Scale: 4
· GPA Weighting: Weighted
FERPA REMINDER: Requesting your transcripts onNaviance is not all that is required prior to having your transcript(s) sent. In order for us to send your documentation to colleges, you must link your Common Application account to your Naviance account. The first part of the FERPA consent form, which will electronically link the accounts, is found in the Common App under “My Colleges,” “Recommenders and FERPA,” “FERPA Release Authorization.” The Naviance section can be found under the “College” tab, and the “Colleges I’m Applying To” link. While it is the student’s choice as to whether or not to waive the right to access, we strongly suggest that students do waive this right, as colleges will take more seriously a recommendation letter that is strictly confidential. Check out the tutorial on this on our Live Binder.
SENDING SAT/ACT SCORES:If you are applying early, remember to send your SAT and/or ACT scores in from either collegeboard.org or actstudent.org. Listing the scores on your application does not take the place of these official score reports. Please note that it may take one to two weeks for your scores to be received by your colleges, so please don’t delay.
NOVEMBER 1STDEADLINES: If you have a November 1 application deadline and you have not set up an appointment for your senior meeting with your guidance counselor, you must do so right away. Contact your guidancecounselor directly to make your appointment.
NOVEMBER 15THDEADLINES: If your first application deadline is November 15th, you need to speak with your counselor NO LATER THAN Tuesday, October 18thto set up your senior meeting.
COLLEGE FINANCING WORKSHOP:Please join us for a Financing College Workshop presented by "College Funding Services,” on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at 7 p.m. in the PAC. Topics to be discussed include an overview of the financial aid process, how to maximize your eligibility for need-based financial aid, and more.
That’s it for this week. Have a wonderful weekend!
