Purpose:

To plan, schedule, coordinate and complete tasks within Networks Division Zone Substations and as required outside of the Zone Substation area.Including scheduled and reactive maintenance to achieve optimal network performance within the context of achieving environmental and commercial excellence.

The position includes an obligation to actively support ActewAGL to carry out work in a way that does not put ActewAGL in breach of any legislative or regulatory obligations and in accordance with the ActewAGL Code of Conduct. ActewAGL will have responsibility to provide suitable training of the legal obligations relevant to your work and to ActewAGL business undertakings.

Under the ActewAGL Always Safe system, this position is required to participate fully in all aspects of health, safety and environment management within ActewAGL, including risk assessment, hazard identification and control and incident reporting.

Accountabilities:

Business Goals

  • Work with the Section Manager to develop and implement and complete works that reflect the Asset Management Plan and associated systems.
  • Undertake maintenance and construction activities associated with zone substation equipment, facilities and plant and ancillary equipment including and not limited to :
  • Circuit breakers
  • Transformers and on-load tap changers
  • Current and voltage transformers
  • Yard structures
  • AC wiring, equipment and systems
  • Batteries and DC wiring and systems
  • Fire and security systems
  • Undertake general duties associated with equipment condition monitoring and assessment.
  • Assist and participate in other Branch activities including electrical testing and protection scheme maintenance.
  • Undertake appropriate duties such as distribution transformer refurburbishment, and general and heavy electrical works etc, in the Branch’s pursuit of commercial and environmental excellence.
  • Participate in planned and emergency after hours duties including an on-call roster.
  • Contribute and participate in the ongoing implementation and improvement of the Branch’s management systems.
  • Responsible for the HSE implications of own actions and have a duty to carry out work in a manner consistent with the HSE Policy. Correctly use all appropriate tools, materials, personal protective equipment and pollution controls. Take steps to rectify on own initiative, and then report, any hazards in the workplace. Observe and practice healthy, safe and environmentally acceptable work methods. Immediately report to Team Leader any injuries, illnesses, incidents causing environmental harm and near misses, no matter how minor
  • To ensure all ActewAGL policies and practices in relation to overall work performance are supported and applied in the workplace
  • Ensure that asset records are accurate and maintenance history is being captured.
  • Provide assistance in ensuring all relevant, acts, regulatory requirements and ethical standards are met.

  • Provide daily feedback in relation to scheduled / completed works in agreed format.
  • Ensure booking of time and materials to appropriate works

Job Specific Skills

  • Possess an acceptable Electrical Trade qualification and experience.
  • Preferable experience (and qualifications where appropriate) in:
  • Welders and brazing
  • Operating workshop equipment eg, drills, grinders guillotine, sheet bender, etc.
  • Operating oil filtering and vacuum equipment
  • Operating knuckle boom cranes, EPV etc
  • Erecting scaffolding
  • Electrical switching, isolation and issuing Access Permits
  • Protection schemes and electrical testing
  • The ability to utilise information technology systems and an understanding of technological changes.
  • A working understanding of, and proven ability to promote, implement and develop Quality, Environment, OH&S and EEO management systems and initiatives as they apply to the area of responsibility.
  • Possession of a current ACT Motor Vehicle and Light Truck Driver’s Licences or their acceptable equivalent.
  • Achieving practical outcomes within resource constraints
  • Good written and verbal communication and presentation skills to effectively convey information and knowledge.

Person Specification:

Experience and Knowledge

  • Zone Substation construction or maintenance experience.
  • Problem solving, analysing results and identifying alternative viable options.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and work experience in the construction, erection and maintenance of electrical plant and equipment and services associated with zone substations (particularly 66/11kV and 132/11kV). This should be in both AC and DC systems and equipment ancillaries eg hydraulic and pneumatics.
  • Have sound appreciation and the ability to implement HS&E principles and procedures
