TITLE: Youth Development Leader (Team Leader)

PERFORMANCE

PROFILE SOURCE: Youth Development Professional

REPORTS TO: Club / Unit Director

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Serves as the lead staff for a designated program area as defined by the Club/Unit Director

Responsible for implementation of a broad range of programs for youth between the ages of 5-18 and that prepares youth for success and creates a club environment that facilitates achievement of 1) Positive Self Identity 2) Health & Well-being 3) Positive Values 4) Commitment to Learning 5) Social Competency & 6) Community & Civic Involvement

KEY ROLES:

Leadership

1.  Provides programs, activities and services that incorporate the Key Elements of Youth Development: a Safe & Positive Environment, Fun, Supportive Relationships, Opportunities & Expectations & Recognition

2.  Oversees & assures Youth Development leaders are actively engaged with members and supporting the activities and programs as so defined by Youth Development Team Leader

3.  Facilitates daily experiences consistent with Club learning objectives

4.  Implements and evaluate programs, services and activities

5.  Implementation of core programs that engage members to be the best they possibly can be

6.  Ensure safe use of the internet and the maximum utilization of Kids College and that systems are used effectively and enthusiastically

7.  Actively engages and addresses the needs of Club members

8.  Encourages positive growth and development

9.  Inspires improved sense of self and support to overcome barriers

10.  Provides genuine and honest investment in each members present and future

11.  Strives to make every minute a positive learning moment

12.  Strives to make a difference in the lives of membership

Strategic Planning

1.  Implement and evaluate programs, services and activities to ensure they meet stated objectives and member needs and interests.

2.  Work in collaboration with Program Development Team to plan and implement a successful and meaningful summer experience based on Boys & Girls Clubs of America ( BGCA )Core programs and achieve Youth Development Outcomes

3.  Work in collaboration with Program Development Team to plan and implement successful and meaningful before and after school clubs that are based on BGCA Core Programs and that achieve Youth Development Outcomes

4.  Identify and secure needed supplies and materials for program activities and experiences in advance

5.  Collaborate with Program Team on activities offered and create effective and meaningful opportunities that engage members

6.  Develop strategies that maximize attendance of Club members

Resource Management

1.  Ensure supply of necessary supplies and materials are in stock, functional, accounted for and utilized effectively

2.  Assist with proper use of equipment, supplies and materials.

3.  Ensure compliance with Boys & Girls Clubs of Topeka( BGCT) policies & procedures

4.  Requisition program supply needs or equipment needs to Education Director

Partnership Development

1.  Cultivate and maintain rapport with parents and primary caregivers through effective communication exchange (written & verbal) at the close of the day

2.  Provide immediate assistance to members in need

3.  Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with BGCT staff to assure effective and routine interaction with members

4.  Work together to achieve program objectives and goals

Marketing & Public Relations

1.  Represent self as a positive, professional and responsive representative of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Topeka

2.  Design and display exhibits of the work done by Club members

3.  Positive role model for our club kids

4.  During working hours, focus and full attention is on members.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1.  Perform special assignments and assist with special projects as directed by the Club / Unit Director

2.  Maintain daily contact program team to discuss challenges, opportunities; provide and receive information as warranted & provide guidance and a consistent discipline system to members

3.  Assist with routine clean up at the end of the day ( no trash on the floor, books and games neatly put away, chairs pushed in, and no materials or supplies on floor)

4.  Establish and maintain Club program goals and settings that ensure the health and safety of members

5.  Ensure that club equipment is maintained in good working condition

6.  Transport members from school to Club when necessary

7.  Provide on-site school support in lieu of school departure and BGCT pick up schedule

8.  Exercise authority in problems relating to members; utilize guidance & discipline plan

9.  Utilize effective communication skills and professional standards of conflict resolution should a conflict arise

10.  Ensure programs & activities respond to member needs and address gender & cultural diversity

11.  Ensure productive & effective performance by team members and volunteers

12.  Additional duties as assigned by supervisor

RELATIONSHIPS

Internal: Works to guide and develop members in a variety of social and skill areas through the provision of quality and effective programs and experiences for BGCT members as well as to work effectively as a team to achieve successful Youth Development Outcomes. Maintains close, daily contact with Club professional staff to interpret and explain program objectives and standards, problem solve issues, and provide/receive information. Works closely with Director of Program Development to ensure BGCA Core programs and Youth Development Outcomes are the foundation and framework of educational supports, activities & experiences. Has regular contact with members as needed to discipline, advice, guide and counsel

External: Maintains contact with parents and primary caregivers to effectively support and achieve the Academic Success, Good Character & Citizenship & Healthy Lifestyles of Club members.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

·  16 years or older

·  A desire/commitment to provide activities based on the developmental needs of young children

·  Ability to plan, organize and manage complex initiatives with varied deliverables

·  Ability to cultivate and maintain positive relationships with individuals

·  Good communication/listening skills

·  Ability to mentor and motivate members to enhance, strive, and believe in themselves through academic success, good citizenship and through living a healthy lifestyle

·  Ability to deal effectively with conflict and discipline problems

·  Demonstrated ability in working with young people, parents and community leaders

·  Demonstrate excellent teamwork skills and collaboration to achieve successful outcomes

·  Demonstrate independent work skills to guide effective decision making and positive results for the BGCT

Other Requirements:

·  CPR & First Aid Certifications (child)

·  Valid (KS) driver’s license

·  Meet the eligibility of insurance company regulations for operating Club vehicle(s)

·  Acceptable background check
