Supply and installation of Gym equipment at

RingmerCommunity College

Site specific waste management policy to reduce the amount of waste produced.

Client: RingmerCommunity College

1. Technical Content

The works comprise the installation of an Adizone at the above site and involves the following specific operations:

  • Temporary works and site set up.
  • Waste and environment
  • Excavation and removal from site
  • Importation of stone filling.
  • Installation of Gym Equipment.
  • Wet pour Safety surfacing.
  • Reinstatement

The site is located just off Lewes Roadwhich is situated in a residential area.

Temporary Fencing

The temporary fence shall be 1800mm high Heras panels, this is to be erected by hand in standard sections. The panels are set in concrete blocks and secured using standard clips fully in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

Excavation

Prior to any excavations commencing a full cat scan of intended area will be undertaken in conjunction with supplied service drawings.

Excavation shall be carried out using a 360~ excavator Topsoil shall be loaded directly onto Dumpers and deposited on site, Levels shall be controlled by laser under the constant supervision of a designated banksman. Theformation shall be trimmed compacted and checked for level. Only the topsoil will be removed.

Waste and environment

It is the policy of Park Leisure Ltd to follow the following points when working on site to reduce the amount of waste produced. Park Leisure is using a registered waste carrier company registered in UK Veolia ES Limited that undertakes our duty of care under Environmental Protection Act 1990.

Excavation of footings – we aim to re-use or disperse any soil on site alternatively if any surplus of spoil this will be separated and removed recycled according to waste management strategy by registered carrier with appropriate waste transfer notes.

Existing tarmac/concrete surface will be remained on site as AdiZone is raised by approximately 160 mm above the existing tarmac level. This will prevent any unnecessary waste leaving site.

Hazardous Waste – Our registered Environmental Agency will appropriately dispose of any hazardous waste of site if any to be found.

Transportation - in order to minimise CO2 produced we use local suppliers for building materials throughout the construction period and all our gym equipment is prefabricated off site to minimise waste therefore environmental impact of our projects.

Filling

Stone filling shall be delivered to the site by 20 tonne tipper lorries and deposited onto the area of the proposed hard surfacing The fill shall be levelled by the excavator and compacted by a double drum vibrating roller of suitable capacity.

Kerb Edgings

Pre cast concrete kerbs shall be installed by hand using ready mixed concrete to provide foundation and will be huanched both sides.

Installation of Equipment

All works will be carried out by our approved installation teams and will be installed to our recommended guidelines.

Park Leisure Ltd contracts managers will oversee all works on site.

Surfacing

A suitably qualified specialist selected from Park Leisure Ltd. database will be contracted to carry out this work.

2. Safety Content

All works undertaken on this site shall be covered by the Park Leisure Ltd.

Health & Safety Manual.

The works shall be commenced and undertaken in accordance with an agreed program. It will be necessary to undertake protective measures and phase the operations in order to maintain the safety of residents and maintain a constant safe access to the surrounding houses.

On arrival at site Park Leisure Ltd. personnel shall position their vehicles in a suitable location that will not hinder local residents or constitute a safety hazard.

3.Substances

All recommended safety precautions shall be taken when handling any substance which may be toxic, inflammable or in any way dangerous. The full requirements of the Control of Substances Hazardous to health Regulations shall apply to this work In particular any hazardous substance shall be kept under lock and key whilst on site. The following substances are identified as being classed under this item and the relevant data sheets are available to all those affected.

(i)Concrete — to be mixed on site by hand in a location to be agreed.

Cement will not be stored on site.

(ii)Petrol — to be kept in minimal quantities in specific containers and locked away when not being used.

(iii)Diesel --- Will be stored within recommended storage containers and locked away when not being used.

4.Equipment to be used

  • Transport: 20 Tonne Capacity Tipper Lorries.
  • Excavation: Max 6 Tonne Mini Excavator.
  • Max 3 Tonne Dumper.
  • Compaction: Double Drum Roller.
  • Small Hand tools such as Shovels, hammers, pick axes etc…
  • Power tools such as Drills, power wrenches etc…
  • Cement Mixer.
  • Cat scanner.
  • Laser Levelling Equipment.
  • Small ladders.

5. Timing of Contract

The timing of the work shall be in accordance with the agreed program. The current date for commencement on site is forecasted as 24thJune 2010.

6.The Duration of On Site Works

The duration of the on site works will be approximately5 weeks. In this time it is proposed that all works will be carried out and completed.

7. Access and Egress

A full logistic assessment will be undertaken to minimise any inconvenience and disruption to the local residents.

All deliveries will be made using designated routes these and any other vehicle movements will be conducted under the supervision of our designated banksmen.

These deliveries will be timed not to clash with peak traffic times or pedestrian movements (i.e. school drop of, pickup)

8.Protective Clothing Required and Issued

The following protective clothing will be required and issued:

  • Safety Steel toe capped boots.
  • High Visibility Vests.
  • General Purpose Hard Hats.
  • Face protection if using power tools.

9. Number of Employees to be Used

The numberof employees to be used on the site shall be at the discretion of the

Park Leisure Ltd. contracts management and will be based on the agreed project programme and completion dates.

10. Quality Control Measures

All sub contractors will be provided with QA/QC forms, which will be completed on site during installation.

These forms will be overseen by Park Leisure Ltd. contracts managers and checked whilst visiting the project and will be filed in the contract file for auditing purposes.

11. Site security

All works will be segregated from any third party at all times.

Security fencing will be secure upon completion of works daily.

Extra care will be taken when works are adjacent to sensitive areas such as

Schools, hospitals, nurseries, to insure in particular children are not exposed to possible dangerous conditions.

Signage will be displayed to warn parents and visitors of possible dangers.
