  2. The students will put the six different flags of Texas in the correct chronological order in a PowerPoint presentation.

Procedures:

Before going to the lab:
For easier web navigation, have your lab assistant add the Six National Flags of Texas page from the Lone Star Junction website to the links bar in Internet Explorer before the class comes to the computer lab.
In the Computer Lab:

  1. Have the students open Internet Explorer. Click on the Six National Flags of Texas button in the links bar.
  2. Minimize the screen.
  3. Open Microsoft PowerPoint.
  4. Select FromDesign Template in the Task Pane window and make a choice.
  5. Type in Six Flags of Texas Timeline in the Title box.
  6. Type in By: (child’s name) in the Subtitle box.
  7. Save the presentation.
  8. Insert a new slide. [Insert à New Slide]
  9. Choose the Blank slide layout.
  10. Click on the Six Flags button in the gray task bar at the bottom of the screen.
  11. Place the mouse in the center of the flag and right click. Left click on Copy in the menu.
  12. Toggle back to Microsoft PowerPoint.
  13. Go to Edit and Paste to place the flag on the slide orRight click and choose Paste.
  14. Toggle back to Six Flags.
  15. Triple click on the title and dates.
  16. While the mouse is over the words, right click. Left click on Copy in the menu.
  17. Toggle back to PowerPoint and choose Edit and Paste orRight click and choose Paste.
  18. Drag the title under the flag.
  19. The flag may be enlarged by clicking on it and dragging a corner handle.
  20. The font size can also be changed by highlighting the title and changing the size from the Formatting toolbar..
  21. Insert a third slide with a Blank layout.
  22. Toggle back to Six Flags and scroll down to the next flag.
  23. Repeat #9 -- #20 until all six flags are on the slides.
  24. Save often.

Each student will use the Internet a minimum of 2 times during the year (one project will be done when the OPAC online catalog is presented by the school librarian).
