TITLE: Senior Technical Manager

REPORTS TO: Principals

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

Position Summary

Successful candidates will demonstrate experience and proficiency with the following:

·  Understand how to define an appropriate analytical framework for various building science, policy, and economic questions surrounding energy efficiency; perform or manage the research; structure reports to convey all the essential information in an accessible manner; gather data from subject matter studies and identify relevant factors; read and interpret technical documents, laws, regulations, and data.

·  Have an understanding of the regulatory arena in which building standards are developed and enforced. Demonstrate experience sufficient to discern quickly the sources in which research will yield valuable information and insight related to salient building performance topics: codes and standards, design principles, cost effectiveness, energy efficiency adoption barriers, and details unique to various kinds of buildings.

·  Understand the impact of the relative costs and benefits of a potential action; identify the key elements that must be modified to achieve a goal; identify, analyze and resolve problems with multiple priorities between departments within the company and outside entities.

·  Coordinate and collaborate with Project/Contract manager on short- and long-range issues that may affect project success. Continually communicate with the project team and clarify what is expected of each team member. Motivate and challenge team members and associates. Incorporate the constraints of budgets and schedules into the design of research, analysis, and reporting.

·  Elicit input from subject matter experts and generalists across a range of professional levels and expertise. Possess a solid understanding of the roles, constraints, and primary motivations of multiple professions involved with the design, construction, sale, rating, maintenance, regulation, financing, and/or remodeling of buildings for energy efficiency.

·  Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the company and with outside contacts; interact with others to influence the adoption of policies that support energy efficiency and economic goals; gain cooperation from technical and non-technical staff, consultants, and professionals from outside agencies to complete assigned tasks and projects. Interact with client representatives at all levels of an organization to ensure continuous customer satisfaction as well as successful project completion.

·  Prepare or oversee preparation of project financial reports.

·  Other duties as assigned.

Basic Knowledge and Abilities Required of this Position

·  Strong organizational, listening, writing and editing skills.

·  Advanced mathematical skills to prepare a variety of reports.

·  Ability to communicate effectively by phone, in writing, and through personal presentation.

·  Establish priorities, plan and schedule work.

·  Perform research and compile information from a variety of sources.

·  Analyze situations and suggest appropriate action.

·  Act independently and make minor decisions based on established procedures.

·  Read and interpret policies and procedures.

·  Compose or oversee preparation of correspondence and minutes independently.

·  Moderate proficiency using Microsoft Excel.

·  Operate standard office equipment; set up and maintain electronic filing systems.

·  Learn office technology systems (project database, email, and voice mail).

·  Prepare documents, reports, spreadsheets utilizing software programs.

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience)

·  Bachelors Degree in a related field such as engineering, physics, chemistry, energy/environmental science, construction, economics, or other related fields from an accredited college or university is expected. Engineering degree preferred.

·  Masters Degree preferred.

·  Minimum of 7 years project management experience in the energy field related to energy efficiency programs or codes and standards is a plus.

·  Substantial experience may be demonstrated in lieu of suggested degrees.

·  A valid driver’s license is required.

Other Experience Desired (any combination)

·  Any of the following type of work: architect, engineer, builder; chief building inspector or plan checker; state, local or federal government employ in the areas of building science research, codes and standards, energy efficiency policy development (e.g., CEC, DOE, HUD, HCD); non-profit green building org, non-profit energy efficiency or environmental org (E.G., ACEEE, CEE, NRDC, Oregon Trust, CABEC); university-level instructor in a relevant subject; utility energy efficiency program manager; EM&V project manager.

·  Conducting or reviewing energy audits to assess cost and savings of energy-savings measures.

·  Familiar with government procurement/contracting practices or decision-making practices.

·  Professional involvement with state or local governments.

·  Understanding of LEED requirements; performance contracting, energy management, and sustainability.

·  Knowledge of solar, wind or biomass applications/design/assessment, or water efficiency strategies.

·  Project management related to building construction.

·  CA licensed mechanical or electrical engineer (or Engineer in Training- EIT)

Salary and Benefits

This position is a full time, permanent position located in Folsom, CA (Sacramento County). Starting salary is competitive and dependent on qualifications and experience. A benefits package is included, including 401 (k).
