Projects like the Corrib only come around once in a generation.

It was quite unique. I mean, it was gigantic in scale.

[Liam]
I don't think anybody really understood the scale of the tunnel, because it was so remote.

The Corrib tunnel was always going to bea mighty project to have on our CV.

We would probably be the primary delivery company for real infrastructure in the UK. We’re used to delivering something overnight, like we build a bridge in our factory once a week now.

External and internal scenes of plant and activities
[Liam]
But when you consider the Corrib tunnel started for us inmid-2011, and only finished in production around about April 2014, that in itself was a real journey.

We weren’t going to be allowed to produce segments for Shell or the Corrib without first having all our risks properly assessed.

The tunnel rings themselves, [OC] they’re broken down into individual segments, each segment combines to make a tunnel ring.

There were very specific tolerances or [VO] requirements, material-wise, in the Corrib tunnel, due to its siting in the sea.

It was quite a challenge, and one now which stands to us, because once, I think, you deliver a tunnel, it’s very much a case that you can deliver anything, really. There isn’t a tunnel project in Europe that we don’t get asked to price now, and that’s from Denmark, Germany, Austria.

I remember arriving in that little factory 31 years ago and there was myself and one other guy. It’s a totally different place now. We’ve got 270 people working there every day.

The Corrib tunnel, it was unique, and really, really enjoyable, and one I will take with me into retirement, when it happens.
