Purpose of role:

To drive forward PECT’s funding strategy in order to maintain and further develop a diverse range of income streams for PECT. A challenging but rewarding role that will enable PECT to continue to grow its work for the benefit of the local and global environment. This is currently the only Fundraising role within the charity. Time will be split between fundraising for existing PECT projects to ensure their sustainability and new innovative projects.

Based: This position will be based at Peterborough Environment City Trust’s offices: The Green House, 4-6 Cowgate, Peterborough, PE1 1NA. There may be opportunities to work from home on some days.

Salary (per annum pro rata): £24 – £27,000 per annum

Key responsibilities:

  1. To review PECT’s funding strategy on a yearly basis ensuring that it reflects the organisations vision, mission and business plan.
  2. Lead and deliver on the funding strategy for PECT, which includes a diverse range of income sources. The focus should be on charitable / government / EU grants and contracted services, but will also include corporate giving, trusts and individual giving.
  3. Train and refresh staff on PECT’s corporate and individual giving policies, supervising staff that are using the policies to ensure they keep on track.
  4. Track all monies secured through Fundraising for the whole of PECT.
  5. Set, monitor, report and meet key performance indicators for income generation (submitted, secured and new relationships).
  6. Working with PECT senior and project staff, trustees and partners to research, develop and submit a range of bids in order to successfully secure circa £700,000 - £1,000,000 per year.
  7. Work with the education, business and communities Team Leaders and their staff to develop and submit bids and asks for their project areas, both to develop new areas of work and maintain existing ones.
  8. For existing projects, create or refresh funding strategies to ensure the projects sustainability.
  9. Supervise fundraising interns.
  10. Oversee the network of Patrons enabling them to support fundraising and other areas of PECTs work.
  11. Develop new and maintain existing networks, partnerships and key contacts.
  12. Work closely with the Marketing Manager as both roles interlink in many instances, such as through events and corporate sponsorship.

Person Specification:

Required / Desirable
At least one years experience in a Fundraising role, including the development of a fundraising strategy / Good knowledge of tax and legal issues relating to funding
Proven track record of securing c. £700,000 - £1M per year / Experience of successfully fundraising through corporate giving, trusts, EU grants and individual giving
Experience of successfully fundraising through a range of sources, in particular charitable / government grants and contracted services / Experience of using online fundraising
Demonstrate excellent communication skills both verbal and written and an ability to present a clear and compelling ‘pitch’ tailored for potential funders, fully engaging with their agenda / motivations / Experience of supervising interns, staff and / or contractors
Experience of a range of fundraising research techniques, ability to employ these successfully in a busy fundraising environment / Experience of supporting a network of patrons
Excellent interpersonal and networking skills, ability to work with a wide range of partners across the private, public and voluntary sector / Understanding of environmental / sustainable development issues
Ability to work well under pressure, able to self motivate to meet and exceed challenging targets, positive and can-do approach to work
Excellent organisational skills, ability to organise a diverse and heavy workload in order to meet deadlines and targets
Creative, innovative and collaborative approach to developing project ideas
Exceptional attention to detail
Experience of budget setting
Excellent IT skills, proficient in use of MS Office and content management databases
Enthusiasm for environmental / sustainable development issues
