Sounds of wind turbines spinning lightly in the wind.

[Animated footage]

Footage of wind turbines turning in the country is shown in the foreground, whilst we approach a city skyline shown in the distance.

“The journey to a lower carbon future is underway. Shell is exploring how cleaner fuels can help deliver lower carbon transport. One, in particular, does not produce any harmful emissions from the tailpipe – only water vapour. Hydrogen.

And if the hydrogen is produced using electricity from renewable energy sources then fuel cell cars have practically no emissions at all. ”

[Animated footage]

The viewer is thrust inside the mechanical workings of a wind turbine. We see cogs turning and lightening-like flashes of electric currents. The hydrogen then passes through an electrolyser, and we see many hydrogen molecules gathering together in a compressed state.

[Male VO]

“Hydrogen is produced in an electrolyser by passing an electric current through water, which splits the water into hydrogen and oxygen.

The hydrogen is captured, compressed and transported to a Shell filling station…”

[Animated footage]

The viewer is looking down the barrel of a fuel pump at the outside of a Shell filling station, looking specifically at the Shell Hydrogen pump.

[Male VO]

“… where it takes a motorist a matter of minutes to fill up their tank.”

[Animated footage]

The viewer is turned round toward the car and is then plunged back in through the fuel tank, following the hydrogen molecules inside the car. The viewer then passes over top and through the many elements of the hydrogen fuel within the car.

“Hydrogen fuel cell cars offer the performance, acceleration and range of conventional automobiles and the quiet driving experience of battery powered vehicles.

The fuel cell generates power for the motor by using the hydrogen in the tank and oxygen from the outside air.”

[Animated footage]

The screen fades to black, opening again on an evening at sunset. The viewer is looking out through the windshield from the inside of a car powered by hydrogen. The car is going round a bend, driving past wind turbines and approaching a big city in the distance.

“Shell has been researching the potential of hydrogen since the 90s and is drawing on its technical expertise and the support of car makers and government partners.

Success relies on everyone playing their part.

Shell already has hydrogen filling stations in California, the UK and in Germany; where it is working with 5 other partners to create a nationwide refueling network.

Delivering clean and convenient driving to motorists.”
