/ Director of Operations
Reporting to / Chief Executive
Job Purpose / §  To have management and commercial responsibility for the quality, compliance, financial performance and development of all Avalon Social Care services.
§  To be responsible for the management of the Deputy Directors of Operations
§  To contribute, as a member of both the Directors Group and the Senior Management Team, to the strategic development of social care services and organisational development within Avalon.
§  To attend meetings of the Board of Trustees and report on all operational matters.
Key Responsibilities
Management / §  To provide a strong and effective leadership to the Operations division
§  To set and maintain high standards of service delivery in accordance with regulatory requirements, contractual requirements, customer expectation and Avalon policy and procedures
§  To lead and direct the provision of all social care services, setting performance targets (both service based and personal) and monitoring performance against these targets.
§  To prepare a sustainable budget and business plan for the Operations Division and to deliver financial performance in accordance with the agreed budget.
§  To ensure timely and relevant management action is taken in the event of under -performance, non-compliance or serious incidents in order to safeguard the performance and reputation of the charity.
§  To conduct professional & productive support & supervision sessions, team meetings & annual PDR’s according to the agreed schedule
§  Monitor the service to ensure person centred ways of working are the forefront of activity and best practice in social care
§  To use a framework of coaching and mentoring to develop staff to effectively deliver a quality service
§  Identify learning needs appropriate to the development of the service
Administration and Technology / §  Lead in the implementation and use of databases within the Operations Division.
§  Analysis of information from a range of sources to produce written & statistical reports in line with Avalon’s performance management processes
Partnership Working / §  Establish and nurture strong relationships with external commissioners, partners and key sector influencers
§  To be a visible ambassador for Avalon representing the organisation at external events and forums
§  Works in close partnership with other Directors, Trustees and other senior staff
§  Work with housing associations to develop building based options and improve quality of housing for customers
Quality Assurance / §  Keeps up to date with legislation, CQC fundamental standards and other external quality assurance frameworks
§  In conjunction with the Deputy Operations Directors and other senior staff promote practices & systems that enable staff to meet CQC standards and ensure compliance across services
§  In conjunction with the Deputy Operations Directors proactively monitor services through the Quality Assurance system, completing reports for the wider Directorate and setting improvement targets for localities
§  Attends and contributes to the Avalon Policy and Procedure group
§  Is part of the internal QAF steering group
Business Development / §  Develop and lead the implementation of activities to drive commercial income, increase charitable funds and to secure increased visibility of the Avalon brand.
§  Carry out cost benefit analysis to ascertain the financial viability and other benefits and risks of any potential new service and develop a business case
General / §  To uphold the values of the charity at all times

§  To work flexibly in hours dictated by the requirements of the service
§  To be part of the 2nd tier out-of-hours on-call service
