TITLE:COORDINATOR of HIGH SCHOOL FAITH FORMATION

Grades9-12

Status:Full Time, Non-Exempt

Reports To:Pastor and Faith Formation Commission (FFC)

Area of Responsibilities

As Coordinator:

  • To assist the Coordinator of Children’s and Family Ministry and FFC secretary with the registration process for grades 9 - 12 program, maintain files of enrollment figures and attendance records, schedule classesand coordinate equipment availability, maintain attendance records, be financially accountable for all income and expenditures for programs, send balance due notices periodically to participating families.
  • Hold non-voting membership on the FFC, prepare and submit monthly reports.
  • Attend DIOCORE meetings.
  • Communicate regularly through bulletin announcements, parent letters, personal contact, emails, texts and other effective means regarding events/activities and opportunities occurring in program.
  • Create and review program goals and evaluations.
  • Prepare weekly newsletter for catechists and families to communicate program information.
  • Recruit, train and be available to catechists/small group leaders.
  • Select and create religious education curriculum for high school students.
  • Participate in and assist with liturgies, prayer services and prayer opportunities.
  • Ensure participating volunteers and catechists/small group leaders have received proper VIRTUS training and background checks.
  • Purchase texts, media, equipment and materials for programs.
  • Maintain regular office hours and/or be accessible when needed.
  • Keep youth center clean and in appropriate order.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all sensitive matters including family finances and life circumstances.
  • Meet regularly with parish staff to articulate goals, evaluate progress, and coordinate schedules.
  • Stay current on formation trends through ongoing study and workshop days.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with other churches in the area.
  • Invite Columbus student participation.
  • Contact parents with any concerns or questions.
  • Be an active and engaged member of the parish staff and parish community.
  • Participate in and assist with liturgies, prayer services and prayer opportunities.

Plan and implement sacramental program for Confirmation:

  • Prepare parent-candidate meetings in August/September & as needed.
  • Recruit Confirmation volunteers & prayer partners.
  • Plan sacramental catechesis for program.
  • Coordinate high school calendars to choosedates for the Confirmation Retreat and Confirmation Liturgy.
  • Interview candidates.
  • Plan Confirmation Liturgy with the parish liturgists.
  • Oversee administrativerecord keeping for service hours and attendance.
  • Plan Confirmation Retreat that includes Reconciliation, Hope Letters for participants, food, kitchen staff and attendance at a weekend liturgy.
  • Coordinate Confirmation reception.
  • Keep updated with diocesan guidelines for Confirmation.
  • Plan Sponsor/Candidate Retreat.

As Youth Minister:

  • Plan and developsocial and youth ministry activities for high school students.
  • Fundraise for trips and archdiocesan events.
  • Participate in Waterloo Area Youth Ministriesactivities including WAYM and

any other relevant activities and meetings.

  • Participate in Archdiocesan programming and events:
  • Encourage and help teens to participate in liturgical ministries:
  • Work with ministry coordinators to train teens.
  • Work with ministry coordinators to schedule teens.
  • Encourage punctuality and regular attendance for scheduled ministries.
  • Maintain presence in teens’ areas of interest (Columbus, Cedar Falls High):
  • Music/art events
  • Sports events
  • Extracurricular events
  • Provide appropriate retreat experiences, especially for confirmation

Jointly with the Coordinator of Children’s & Family Ministry, collaborate on, construct, and conduct:

  • Pre-baptismal sessions for parents
  • Pre-marital preparation sessions (Sponsor Couples, Foccus)
  • RCIA, RCRA (in collaboration with Waterloo programs as appropriate)
  • Bible studies/Faith Sharing
  • Other adult formation programming as needed and desired
