The Inter-Faith Food Shuttle (IFFS) pioneers innovative, transformative solutions designed to end hunger in our community.

IFFS Nutrition Education Programs equip community members with the knowledge and skills to ACCESS, PURCHASE, PREPARE, and EAT healthy nutritious food on a limited budget. IFFS nurtition education programs include Share Our Strength (SOS) developed Cooking Matters and Cooking Matters at the Store, and IFFS’s Food Matters and Mobile Tastiness Machine Nutrition Education. General Function:

Under the supervision of the Director of Nutrition Education and in keeping with the mission of the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, the Cooking Matters Coordinatorwill be responsible for establishing, coordinating, and managing Cooking Matters programming throughout our seven service counties.

Qualifications & Skills:

The ideal candidate will have one-two years of relevant experience in the health or nutrition field, with at least one year experience working with low-income populations preferred
  • Strong networking, marketing, and communication skills
  • Experience in the coordination, management, and supervision of programs
  • Experience working with team of partners, managing volunteers, and/or staff
  • Demonstration of initiative; prioritization, and organizational skills
  • Basic Microsoft Office, website management (Wordpress), and Google document skills
  • Nutrition and/or Culinary background preferred

Principle Responsibilities

Cooking Matters Coordination

  • Adapt, update, and develop as needed program tools, including evaluation, training, and communication methods
  • Recruit, train and support volunteers, including facilitation ofmonthly volunteer Train-the-Trainer sessions
  • Update and oversee reporting and accountability system
  • Research, identify, and collaborate with new potential host sites
  • Act as liaison between host site and IFFS
  • Manage CM program delivery within the specified budget, maintaining accurate records of expenses and income, including donated and recovered materials
  • Report, record, and complete all necessary documentation in accordance with SOS requirements

Essential Function:

Position requires manual dexterity, corrected vision, speech, and hearing to normal range or special accommodations made of sufficient nature for completion of assigned tasks. Hours will include some evenings and weekend work, based on program and class schedules. Valid NC Driver’s license and reliable transportation are required. This position will be based from the IFFS main offices in Wake County. Schedule is flexible and can accommodate a minimum number of graduate level or pre-requisite courses for applicants pursuing advanced credentialing or education.

DETAILS REGARDING BENEFITS AND REQUIREMENTS FOR AN AMERICORPS YEAR OF SERVICE

Requirements for completing a year of service:

  • 1700 hours of service, that they must track
  • 12-months to complete
  • AmeriCorps members may hold part-time jobs outside of service, but the job may not interfere with service priorities (and members may not do paid work at their service location)

Purpose of the Cooking Matters AmeriCorps program:

  • Your service is to support the coordination of a program that is based on an established curriculum and program materials
  • General responsibilitiesand description of the position is provided on page 1
  • The job description on page 1 is very general and subject to customization depending on the needs of the AmeriCorps personal and professional development, as well as the needs of IFFS. The final work plan design will be a collaborative effort between the Director, Manager, and the AmeriCorps Member.

IFFS serves as a host site for SOS AmeriCorps Members, and the primary office location is at 1001 Blair Drive, Raleigh, NC 27603. Travel between our seven service counties could be required, depending on needs and opportunities to serve at various locations. Primary travel will be limited to Orange, Chatham, Durham and Wake counties. Reliable transportation is required. Mileage is reimbursed at a rate of 30 cents per mile, and meals are reimbursed, based on an allotment for ½ day and full day travel.

Benefits of the AmeriCorps year of service:

  • Living allowanceof $12,530 disbursed in 24 pay periods each calendar year and education award of $5,775 upon completion of 1700 hours of service

SOS does not encourage being enrolled in a full-time education program while in service, however, IFFS is happy to discuss any future or current education plans or requirements to determine if a full year service term could be integrated with your academic schedule. IFFS encourages AmeriCorps to use the time of service to explore possible career avenues within health, nutrition, non-profit management through work plan development, shadowing community members, taking pre-requisite courses, visiting graduate schools, etc., and will make every effort to facilitate and support this exploration.
