[Narrator]

Shell has been in Norway for more than 100 years. Our core business areas are exploration and production of oil and gas, both as an operator and as a licensed partner. Our head office is in Stavanger. You will now be introduced to Shell’s operations department in mid-Norway and our two operated fields in the Norwegian Sea, Ormen Lange and Draugen.

[Narrator]

Oil from the Draugen field is processed on a platform while gas and condensate from Ormen Lange is transported by pipeline to an onshore facility at Nyhamna. Whether we’re working on the facilities or in the operations support office, we all share the same mission – to produce oil and gas safely and efficiently to the right quality, time and cost.

[Animated sequence]

Whiteboard scribe sequence of an aerial representation of the Draugen oil platform, Ormen Lange and the Nyhamna onshore facility, with the pipeline connecting these facilities drawn in black, and a collection of buildings shaded in various colours drawn along the shoreline to the north of Nyhamna, indicating the operations office. The ocean is shaded in grey and a support vessel is drawn in the ocean at lower frame-left. There are small splashes of red and yellow in the drawing.

Three scenes are drawn below each of the sections of the flow arrow. Several elements of the scenes are shaded in colour – predominantly yellow and red.

Frame-left is an office scene, two people seated at a desk in the foreground, looking at a computer screen in front of them. Behind them, another man stands looking at graphics hanging on the wall.

Centre-frame is another office scene, showing a cluster of workstations in an open plan format, several people drawn seated and one standing at workstations, and two large screens visible against the wall in the background.

Frame-right depicts two workmen in safety gear operating a valve, plant structures seen in the background.

[Narrator]

We are organized in three value streams that, together with support functions, ensure stable and reliable operations. Each value stream consists of multidisciplinary teams and has a value stream leader who is responsible for creating a sense of flow through the different time zones. Through integration and collaboration, we’re able to focus on the right things in the right time to ensure that all our activities are carried out in a safe and cost-effective way.

[Animated sequence]

Whiteboard scribe sequence with three flow arrows pointing from bottom of frame-left towards the top of frame-right, each displaying text, and with another block extending along the base of the arrows also displaying text.

Towards the top of frame right, three scenes are drawn alongside the flow arrows. Several elements of the scenes are shaded in colour – predominantly yellow and red. Text displays above each scene.

The first scene, closest to frame-left, is of a man sitting at a desk while a woman stands, gesturing towards a chart on the wall.

The second scene is of an office cubicle with a man and woman seated at the workstations.

The third scene is of two workmen in safety gear with an oil platform visible behind them.

[Narrator]

The production value stream is responsible for optimizing the production of oil and gas, offshore and onshore. The production team is responsible for the entire value chain, from reservoir to market.

[Animated sequence]

Within the flow arrow, the various onshore and offshore facilities are depicted – the oil platform at the base, then the gas field and pipeline, a support vessel visible near the shoreline and the processing plant near the head of the arrow. Elements of the drawings are shaded in yellow and red.

[Narrator]

The production team is dependent on the facilities and that the equipment functions as it should at all times. This is where the maintenance team come in. They monitor the facilities and the equipment, plan work packages and execute maintenance activities.

[Animated sequence]

Whiteboard scribe sequence with a large flow arrow pointing from bottom of frame-left towards the top of frame-right. Within the flow arrow, a scene depicts two workmen in safety gear working on equipment with pipes and other structures depicted behind them and reaching up toward the arrow head. Elements of the drawings are shaded in yellow and red.

[Narrator]

Over time, the composition of the well stream coming into the facilities changes and new, more effective technology becomes available. The minor modifications value stream is responsible for handling change proposals from an early phase all the way through to installation and commissioning.

[Animated sequence]

Further up the arrow, three figures stand together in discussion against the backdrop of walls which display various charts. Closer to the head of the arrow, two workmen in safety gear are depicted, working on equipment with plant structure visible behind them. Several elements of the scenes are shaded in colour – predominantly yellow and red.

[Narrator]

The support functions work across the three value streams through different time zones and play an integral part in helping Shell operations deliver.

We are reliant on having the best processes and tools. Operational excellence is Shell’s manual for operations and contains guidelines for best practices. Operational excellence is divided into turbine blades, one for each work are. When all turbine blades are streamlined, the turbine can operate efficiently and at full force.

[Narrator]

We use SAP to link together functions and processes. SAP is a digital tool which contributes to good process flow and seamless cooperation between the different departments. When we use SAP 100%, we ensure high efficiency and transparency in complex work processes.

[Animated sequence]

We use a mindset called Lean to ensure that we always keep getting better at what we do. Lean translates to continuous improvement and the objective of Lean is to always think of ways to improve the entire organisation and throughout the whole value chain. To us, continuous improvement is an important focus area. While we are proud about the results we’ve achieved so far, we’re passionate about doing even better.

[Narrator]

Our activities generate values for Shell and our partners for the region in which we operate and the Norwegian society. That’s why we will continue to deliver good results in the years to come.

[Animated sequence]

Whiteboard scribe sequence depicts various scenes drawn on a base of concentric circles. Men and women and children stand generally in groups at various points on the circles.
