To: INCO 3027 STUDENTS

Re: FINAL PROJECT GUIDELINES

You will write a memo to provide the information and analysis of your marketing research project. Please follow these guidelines:

·  Choose a memo template from Microsoft Word (don’t forget to “justify” the alignment and to change the font size to 12)

·  Include the following in the letterhead:

o  To: Professor Giovanna Balaguer

o  From: your names (group members) followed by a comma (,) and student ID numbers

o  Date: non-numerical

o  Subject or RE: Marketing Research Final Project (in bold)

·  Answer each of the following questions or provide the requested information using complete sentences as you develop the content of each paragraph:

o  Paragraph 1=

§  Background information/introduction about your company and/or product

§  Write your “problem statement”. This will be your last sentence in this paragraph.

o  Paragraph 2=

§  Data gathering process (activities conducted explaining the “business report writing process”)

·  Constructing/developing the questionnaire

o  Demographic profile questions: age, gender, …

o  Problem statement questions: including the “why?” (to determine…..)

·  Surveying the questionnaire: sample population (#), specific group targeted? (students at… or residents of…)

·  Tabulating the questionnaire (survey results)

·  Creating/designing visual aids

o  Paragraph 3= Findings/Conclusions

§  Explain the results of each question in your questionnaire. Use (“%”) percentages.

§  What can you conclude about your “problem statement”? For example: “In conclusion,…”

·  Don’t forget to include your TABULATED QUESTIONNAIRE AND VISUAL AIDS (IN COLOR!!!)

·  WHEN YOU FORMAT THE MEMO AND AFTER YOU FINISH PARAGRAPH #3, INSERT the REFERENCE INITIALS (insert, auto text, auto text,…). ALSO, WRITE THE “ENCLOSURES” NOTATION.

·  Additional Instructions:

ü  You will hand- in the Final Research Project MEMO on ______.

ü  Only one (1) group member needs to come to my office during the assigned schedule: day & hours.

ü  Don’t forget that you must SIGN the final test/project attendance list.

ü  MEMOS THAT ARE NOT ACCOMPANIED BY THE TABULATED QUESTIONNAIRE (Appendix A) AND VISUAL AIDS (Appendix B) WILL NEITHER BE ACCEPTED NOR EVALUATED.

ü  If you don’t complete the final project, you will receive an “incomplete”.

ü  If you need special assistance, I will be available on ______during the following hours: ______.

ü  Remember the following vocabulary discussed in class: research, study, investigation, marketing research project, conducted (and all the other action verbs; such as “determined”, “constructed”, “surveyed”, “administered”…), population, sample population, respondents, in conclusion, in general, primary data, secondary data, ….

ü  Specific order of documents:

1.  MEMO- final version

2.  tabulated questionnaire

3.  visual aids (in order: Figure 1, …)

4.  in a separate envelope or folder include the surveyed questionnaires and the draft(s) of your report (MEMO)

ü  GOOD LUCK, HAVE A WONDERFUL VACATION AND FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT GRADUATE, “CONGRATULATIONS, I KNEW YOU COULD MAKE IT !!!”
