Something was brewing when Marcela invited her friends Libe and Janet to celebrate a special birthday in Cancun, Mexico.
There was no agenda other than to rejoice in friendship, sand, surf and the occasional margarita among lifelong "amigas," as they say in Mexico.
It turns out the women did more than just drink in the beautiful scenery. They rejoiced in getting to know each other again. One morning they lifted their brightly colored ceramic coffee mugs filled with exotic Mexican coffee. Little did they know that they would be sharing with others amazing south of the Border heaven. The coffee was pure, strong and jolting at times -- just like a great friendship.
Months later, when the women returned to their homes in the United States and Mexico, they mused that the birthday trip was actually similar to creating a perfect cup of coffee. There was the right blend of ingredients: Three women who were lifelong friends… and unknowingly the tier was set.
Each one of them went in their own direction for the next three years. Janet was busy with her event management firm. Libe's time was spent in her financial and family affairs. Marcela was raising funds to help worthy organizations flourish in the not- for-profit sector.
During this time, they all kept talking about wanting to share the exotic flavors of coffee with others as well as the idea of being closer to each other. And soon there was something percolating: A business idea to launch a specialty coffee venture to capture the most delicious intoxicating flavors in the world: high altitude, organically grown coffee "the cloud forest" of Mexico.
"Enjoying a great cup of coffee is one of life's little pleasures," Janet says. "Being able to provide that enjoyment to others, as I have in the past with food and wine as a former restaurateur and caterer,gives me great satisfaction and fulfillment."
"I believe that this venture is a wonderful opportunity to create something of our own," Libe says. "Coffee is a passionate subject and I feel I have the right partners because we bring our life passion to this work."
