Titan Girls Basketball Summer Workouts

To improve as a team, each player has to be committed to developing their skills individually. This is what allows teams to improve from season to season. The following are the expectations for summer skill development. Each athlete’s participation will be recorded. These activities are to be completed at each open gym day prior to any scrimmaging. One of the GBB coaches will be present at each open gym. These workouts must be completed at an open gym or approved camp with a coach present to count towards your Titan Dedication Decals that will be placed on our shooting shirts this season.

Shooting – 200 shots a day is the goal (You can shoot with a partner or use “The Gun” to maximize the time spent shooting). Shots need to be “game speed” shots, not standing around. Anyone can make a basketball standing around. We need to score when we have to move and create a shot. The 200 shots will break down like this:

·  Guards – Start with 25 shots in a Mikan drill. 75 shots are to be jump shots between the basket and 3 point line (inside 3 pt line) – 50 of this must come off a cut or move, 25 can be set shots if you choose. 50 shots must come from behind the 3 point line (use the Gun or have a partner kick out to you).

·  Forwards/Centers – Start with 50 Mikan shots (25 regular and 25 reverse). 50 shots are to come from a post move (drop step, hook shot, face up, up & under). Last 50 shots are to be jump shots from elbow to baseline that come off of a cut or move to get open (if you are a 3 point shooter as well, then another 25 shots should be from 3 pt line).

·  All positions are required to shoot 50 free throws, and record makes. Shoot 10 at a time and run one side court sprint for every miss.

Passing – 100 passes – 25 chest passes, 25 overhead passes, 25 bounce passes, 25 miscellaneous (Use a partner or one of our passback machines).

Ball-Handling – 10 minutes each open gym session should be spent in ball-handling drills

Defense/Agilty – 1 set of defensive/agility drills per week – one set equals: 1 jump rope routine, OR 5 x lane agility box or home base (with partner) and 5 x dot drill, 5x cone agility

You are responsible for improving yourself. The coaches will provide opportunities and help in any way that we can, but it comes down to your willingness to commit to doing the work needed to improve your abilities.

Open Gym - Open Gym will be held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 7-9 am. Open Gym will be held in the high school or Intermediate gym. Athletes are expected to complete drill work before any scrimmaging.

Weight Lifting – Athletes are expected to complete the BB lifting program twice a week. The weight room will be open for GBB lifting from 7-8pm Mondays and Thursdays (also general open weight room each weekday morning).

Pentagon League - We have a team entered in the Pentagon League, which runs two nights a week (Mon, Tues, or Thurs) beginning June 6th. All athletes are encouraged to participate in league games. League games will be included on the summer calendar. Cost is $10.

Team Camps - We are planning on attending three team camps this summer. The team camp at SDSU is June 10-11, the USD team camp is June 19-20, and the DSU team camp is July 25th. Cost is $10 per team camp. We will also hold a skills camp in Tea prior to the start of the season (date yet to be determined).

Titan Youth GBB Camp – We will hold a youth camp for those entering grades 2nd–6th on June 27-29th. Camp will go from 6pm to 8pm. Plan on attending (I expect you to help) to work with our youth athletes who look up to you as basketball players (both in a literal and figurative sense)!
