1. Back Ground

In order to trade a diverse portfolio of instruments, we needed a couple of tools that were not provided yet within the Tradestation Platform. One of the tools is the ability to draw a line whether it be a horizontal line, vertical line, or trend line on one chart for a particular instrument and it displays the same line on another chart for the same instrument. Traders use horizontal lines, vertical lines, and trend lines to represent support/resistances for a particular instrument. By displaying the line for the same instrument for various time frame charts, the trader can see the strength of the support/resistance lines.

For the line functionality should provide the following functionality:

  • Encompass Horizontal Lines, Vertical Lines, and Trend Lines.
  • Ability to save the lines for each instrument so they can be loaded whenever.
  • Ability to load the lines automatically when Tradestation is started or a chart is loaded.
  • Ability to load the values of the lines into Radar screen for alerting (this will be provided in another ELD) so the charts for each instrument does not need to be open. This allows the user to have an alert system for up to 500 symbols (Limitation in Radar screen).
  • Ability to Clear the chart for all Lines
  • Ability to manually load all saved lines.
  • Ability to automatically load all saved lines with a user based timer.
  • Ability for one trader to send the save lines for a particular instrument to another trader that has this indicator.

  2. Please create a Directory called “lines” within the c:\data directory. Therefore, the path looks like the following: c:\data\lines
  3. Download the “FileReadWrite.dll” from the App store and place in the data directory (c:\data)
  4. Figure 4 illustrates the Directory structure that should be setup exactly. If it is not setup exactly, the indicator will not work.
