Course Objectives
To learn more about the economic principles that focus on households, business firms, industries and international trades. Includes demand, supply, costs of production, and the market structures of pure competition, oligopoly, monopolistic competition and monopoly.
Class Attendance
Expected but flexible. Any student missing more than three (3) class hours per semester may be automatically withdrawn from the class. Since this is a summer term, missing one class can be very costly in terms of information missed.
Make-up Work Policy
It is possible to make up late assignments, given a valid reason for missing a deadline. Assignments that are turned in late will have ten points subtracted for each day they are late. Arrangements with the instructor should be made for make-up exams.
Activities
The following activities are required and reflect the course objectives:
- Exams: There will be five exams, including the final, which will not be cumulative. Each exam is worth 15% of the total grade.
- Homework Assignments: There will be three homework assignments from the text. Follow the instructions given in each exercise. These assignments should be legibly written, and it should be clear exactly which question is being answered. Each assignment will be worth 5% of the total grade.
- Group assignments: There will be two group assignments. A news article will be assigned, and each group will hand in a brief typed report detailing the economic principle illustrated in the article. If a student has serious scheduling conflicts which will not permit group meetings, that student will be allowed to complete these assignments individually. Each assignment will be worth 5% of the total grade.
