“Our iPad will be used for online reading such as RAZ-Kids, or Moby-Max wheretheycanalsopracticemathaswellassomescienceandsocialstudy objectives.Theywillalsobeusedtohelpstudentswithresearchonanimals,states orNationalSymbols.

Ourschoolissetupandcanhandlethisadded technology. Wehaveanample numberofaccesspointsandstrong Wi-Fi. Therearenoanticipatedcostsabovethe acquiring oftheiPads. TheiPadminiswillprovideanavenueforstudents to participateinonlinereadinggroupswiththeteacher. Both studentsandteachers willhaveaccesstocurrentonlinearticles,currentnewsevents,andotheronline readingprogramssuch as RAZ-Kids.

Additionally, we willusetheiPadsforstudentstodemonstrate mathandscience proficiencythroughprogramslikeMoby-Max.

Studentswhohave nothadtheopportunitytotravelandseeotherstateswillbe abletoresearchaboutthosestatesandalsolearnandseepicturesofourNational symbols. Many of our studentsdonothaveaccesstoacomputer and/or the internetintheirhomes. By bringingiPadsintotheclassroomwearegivingthese studentsanopportunitytoexperienceaworldthatisnototherwiseopentothem. Nottomentiontheinteractiveabilitieswillhelp ourvisual,auditoryandkinesthetic learners. The iPad Minis will be used foronlineprogramssuch as RAZ-Kids for reading and Moby-Max whichhasareading,writingmathandsciencecomponents.

Thistechnologywillbesharedinfourclassroomsandwillimpact100studentsthis yearalone. ThegoalsandpurposesoftheTeachers and Technology Grant Programwillbe metthroughintegratingtechnologyintoourdailycurriculumto enhancestudentlearningthroughtechnology.

TheiPadminis,willsupplementourcurrentteachingresources.

The systems management program is used by the ______. This grant would allow us to purchase 18 Samsung Chromebooks at $245.00 each plus $30 x 18 for the management applications associatedwithmanaging theChromebooksandprotectingtheirintegrity. Thecost fortheChromebookswouldbe$4,410.00 andthecostforthemanagementprogram wouldbe$540.00.Thetotalcostwouldcomeoutto$4950.00fortheentire project.

Mostofmystudentscometoclass.Mostofmystudentshaveaccesstoatouchscreenphone.Mostofmystudentsloveresearchingdiverse ideas,scholarlyinformation,andstatisticaldata.But,mostofmystudents donothavetheresearch, typing,orcollaborativeskillstosuccessfully accessthisknowledgebase.HavingaccesstocomputersonaregularanddailybasiswillallowmetointegratetheuseofprogramslikeEBSCO, GoogleDriveApps,digitaljournals,andquickformativeassessmentlikeMasteryConnect.Thiswillhelpmegivefasterfeedback tostudents because I will beabletotypefeedback. Thiswillalsoallowmetocreate more student directed learning andcollaborativeprojects because mystudentswillhave accesstothematerialstheyneedinorder topreparethemselvestobethebest civiliansof the21stCentury.

My studentsneedtobridgethegapbetween the socialusesoftechnologyandtheacademicapplication oftechnology. Itisevenmore crucialformystudentstohavedailyaccesstotechnology inordertogivethem equitableskillstostudents inhigherincomeareas.Thestudentsatmyschoolhave wideaccesstocellphones, butdonothavethetechnologyskillstoresearch,type, andcommunicateviaemailthattheyshould have.Theydonothavecomputersat home,sotheyneedtousetheiracademictimetopractice integratingpracticaluse of technologyacross thecurriculum.Havingaccesstocomputersonadailybasis willhelpstudentspractice research,writing,communication,andcollaboration skillsinadigitalsettingonadailybasis.Thiswillalsoallowstudentstopractice skills likeself-publication,websitedesign,anddigitalwritinginaformatthatis safe andscaffoldedforanalyticlearning. Studentswillbeableto turn in informative assignments aneasy,paperlessmannertoourclassroomfolderwhich saves time, paper, and other materials.

By having these Chromebooks, theEnglish department will no longer have tofightforcomputerlabs.Studentswillhaveaccesstoa computer Jabonadailybasisandwillbe abletoshare assignmentstoconduct peer reviewofwriting,researchinformationusingscholarlysiteslike EBSCO on a daily basis,create presentationsandvideosforcourse content,andpractice basictyping skills.TheseChromebookswillbeusedintheEnglishdepartment,primarily,but theywillbeavailabletootherdepartmentswhowanttopractice integrating technologyintotheircurriculum.Theamountofstudentsinvolvedonadailybasis inmypersonalclassroomwillbe120; however,thisprojecthasthecapacityto impacthundredsofstudentsthroughoutthelifetimeoftheChromebooks.Our schoolhassixlanguage artsteachers whoeachhaveapproximately120 students. Thisprojectcould,potentially,reacheverystudentintheschool.Thegoalof theTeachersandTechnologyGrantProgram istointegratetechnologyinto classroom on a core level in order to level the playing field and allow students to have access to materials thatwillgivethemanequitableeducation.

My students lacktheresourcesto"eventheplayingfield"in in their homes and desperately need to practice basic technology skills on a daily basis in the classroom in order to be prepared to face the world beyond high school. Theseincludesending emails, designingprojects, andresearchingvalidinformation. Without dailyaccessto technology,mystudentswillmissoutoncriticalskillsandmayevenfeelliketheir courseworkis inapplicable tothe"realworld"skillstheyneedtosurvive.Having accesstoChromebookswillallowmetoeasilymakethatconnectionwithmy studentswhilehelpingthem practice crucialanalysisskillssothattheycanbe strongstudentsandevenstrongerstewardsofthe21stCentury.

Currently, the computerlabisaprivilegethatstudentsusesparingly totypefinaldrafts,takestate tests,and researchmaterials for a short period of time. Havingaccesstoadaily computerlabwillallowstudentstoapplytheskills associated withthe21st century to their academic work on a daily basis. Studentsneedtobeabletousecomputers, notjustphones, topracticesustainedwriting,research,presentation,and collaboration activitiessothattheyassociatetheuseoftechnologywithacademia andnotjustentertainment.Additionally,thiswillimprove ouraccesstomultimedia technologyopportunitieslikefilmmaking,comicstripdesign,andreading materials.Thiswilleliminate paperfromourclassroom andchangethewaymy studentsviewthewaytheyearnfeedbackanddirect learningintheclassroom.

My students will learn thecharacters,vocabularyandmakesentences.Theyallstart withastoryboardtocreatetheir own books. Every two students will do thepartner-share learningmodeltoshareaniPadandhelptoeachother.

WritingChinesecharacterscanbeveryboringfor mystudents,letaloneto teach themtowritethestrokesordercorrectly.Formost Chinese language learners, Chinesecharactersarepicturesorlogogramstothem.Theyjust"draw"whatever thecharacterslookliketo them.However,the Chinese charactersarerigorous structures.Learningthecorrectstrokesorderisreallyimportanttostudents.The correctstrokesorderpromotesfewesthandmovements,writingspeed,accuracy andlegibility.

Afterstudentsmemorizeandmasterthecorrectstrokes,they will learnhowto combinethecharactersandturnthemintovocabularyorapplythem tovocabulary andtomakesentencesinspeakingandwriting.Thisprojectwillhelpstudentsto practiceindifferentlevelsandmaketheirownprogress.Itwillbelike I havemany teacher'saidestohelpdifferentlevelsofstudentswithdifferentneeds.iPadandthe interactivelearningmethodwillimprovethestudent'slearningmotivationand adjustwiththeindividualstudent'slearningpace. I will designthelearning plantomystudentsthrough the following apps(butnotlimited)andsteps:

[i]Educreations – I will pre-recordthestrokes(visualandauditory)ofeachChinese characterwithEducreations.I will demonstratetherecordedvideofirstandhave eachstudentwritewithmetwiceontheiPadtogether.Theneachgroupofstudents willwriteoneby onewiththerightorders.Studentswillpickupsomemore complicatedcharactersandhavestudents recordthestrokesthemselvesto demonstratetotheclass.

Therecorded files will save onEducreations.com,and I will sharethelinkonmy website.If mystudentsareabsentorneedreinforcementathome,theycanreview thevideoathome.

[ii]ChineseWriter -- ThisappisaChinesecharacter-writingspeedgame.The characters will fall fromthetop.Theplayerneedstowritethecharacterwiththe rightorderstogetpoints.Theappincludesthecharacterssets – HSK Level 1 and 2 that correspondtotheState Office of Education requiredtesting. The students who master each lesson’s characters can play this game for fluency practice.

[iii]iBook Author -- By the end of the school year, each studentwillcreatetheirfirst digitalChinesebookwiththeirdrawingand voice. Wewillpublishthebooksonline andmakethemavailableontheiPadsforallstudentsandparentstoreview. We will have a Chinese Line Writer Book Club where every student can read his or her own book to the class.

Whilewewilldo thecooperationlearningwith3rdand5thgrades,around150 studentsinourschoolwillbebenefited.Aslongastheprojectruns,thefollowing 4thgraderswillbebenefited.” Unlike the native Chinese-language learner, the dualimmersionstudents haveverylimitedresourcestolearn Chinese. Thein-class learningbecomesthesignificantinputsource. As aChinesedualimmersionteacher, mygoalistohelpmystudents enjoylearning Chinese through toolsto accommodatedifferentlearningstyles(visual,auditoryandtactile) of learners.

As soon as I get the iPads,I will teachmystudentshowtoaccessmylesson online.They will learnalessoneverythree weeks.Studentswillfocuson handwriting,strokesorderin thefirstweek;thevocabulary,sentencesandtypingin thesecondandthirdweeks. By the end ofsemester,studentswillfinishtheir16 pagesebookwith 200 to 400 Chinesecharacters.

Thestudentsarenotonlylearningwriting Chinese, butalsolearningtypingChinese. ThisprojectwillhelptheChineseDualImmersionprogram studentstoapplywhat theylearnedinschoolintothereal life. I believemystudentswillbeabletoexplore their Chinese learningontheInternetbytheendoftheproject.They willableto searchmoreinformationandevencommunicate(bytyping)inChineseonline.With thisgrant, I can teachmystudentshowto “fish” intheirChineselearningandnot limitedin theschooleducation. I wish my studentswillbeabletoexploretheir Chineselanguageandcultureknowledgemore.

Yearsbefore I becameateacher,Iwasaresearchscientist. Ihave students working attheLoveland Living Aquariumandonsciencefairprojectsthatareputting togetherpostersthatdonotmeetthestandardsusedbyscientists whenwepresent ourfindingstocolleaguesandthepublic.Putsimply,theprinter,thepaperandthe inkarenecessaryinorderforstudentstobeabletocreatescienceandresearch basedpostersthatareprofessionalandmeettoday'sstandardsinindustryand business. Theextrapaperandinkinsurethisprojectwillbeuseableforalongtime.

Arequirementfrom the Utah Office of Education isthatweprepare students forreal life.Inreal life, science andresearch posterpresentationsarenotputtogether usingconstruction paperandmarkers. Theyareprintedonlargeformatprinters. I usedtoworkasaresearchscientist and printedmanypostersonsuchprinters. I show the PowerPointfilestomystudents sothattheycanseeactualscienceandresearchbasedposter presentations, but NONE ofthemcanduplicatetheprofessionallookandfeelofaproperlycompletedposter.ItwillimpactmyteachingbecauseIwillhavetoteachthemhowtousePowerPointtocompletesuchaposter.

I already utilizecomputerstohelpthemmakegraphsandtoaccessinformation,but after I have theprinter inplace, I can havethestudentscompletetheirposterson thecomputer. I can gradetheiroutputonthecomputer. I will be abletoselectthe bestpostersfromtheclasstoprintonthelargeformatprintertobehunginthe sciencedepartment'sdisplaycabinet. The additionofalargeformatprinterto ourschoolwillimpactstudentlearningbyallowingstudentstoreallycompletea properposter.Itwilldecreasetheirdependency onlargesuppliesofconstruction paper,trifoldposters,andmarkers.

It willhelpstudentswithpoorpenmanship completereadablework. Itwillallowmyautisticstudentstobetterparticipatein class. Thisprojectwillimpactstudents learning by havingthemaccessand usemoderntechnologycurrently beingusedinindustryandbusiness. They willbe better prepared toentertheworkforceduetotheirabilitytoutilizethistechnology beforetheirpeers. Thedifferenttechnologiesinvolvedincludecomputer, Internet,andmultimedia. StudentswillbeaccessingtheInternetonschool computers. Theywillbecreatingmultimediastylepresentations.They willbe usingtheschool'swirelessnetworktosendtheircompetedworktothenewposter printer.

Thespecificcontentareasimpactedinclude:7thand8thgradeintegratedscience, earthscience,biology,marine biology and many othersdependingontopicspursued bysciencefairparticipants. Thetechnologywillbeusedintheseclasses,but availableforotherteachersintheschooltoaccessasneeded.

Thenumberof studentspotentiallyimpactedbythisprojectis1500. Thenumberof teachersinitiallyinvolvedis7,thoughasmoreteachersintheschoolbecomeaware oftheproject,itwillincrease."Thiswillimprovestudent achievementby using today'stechnology.Scientist share theirresearchthroughthreemethodsof publication. They writeapaper,presentatconferencesanddisplayaposter presentationatconferences.Thiswillallowstudentstoaccessthismethodof publication. Bycreatingreal-world work,ourstudentswillbeabletoaccessvariousconferencesforthedifferent sciencesstudiedintheworld. My motivationforthisprojectisaposter presentationataconferencefortheEntomologicalSocietyofAmerica.Itwasa postercreated bymiddleschoolstudents.Theyhadpublishedas scientistsandhad theirworkappreciatedbyprofessionals. Scientistsattheconferencecontactedthe studentsandtheirteacheraboutintegrating theirworkintoworkfromuniversities andindustry. Lastly, inorder tobeabletocreatetheseworks,theInternetisa criticalcomponent. Ourstudentswillneedto leverageaccesstotheInternetand otherresearchfromthereal-worldinordertocompletetheirprojects.

Insteadofusingglueandmarkers,mystudents willbecomemorecomputer literate. I will beusingtechnologymorerealistictotherealworld. I will be preparingmystudentsbetterfortheirfuture. I will beteachingmystudentsto completerealscienceandresearchbasedproject,justlike I didwhen I wasworking inresearch. Thisimprovementwillimprovethecurrentuseoftechnologyinmy classroombygivingstudentsaccesstotechnology Iusedasascientistandusedby scientiststoday.
