Tips for promoting Your library onlineand Tourist Card

  • Display the posters, flyers and ‘how to’ brochures throughout your library and other Council areas. You can also ask other organisations to display promotional materials – try the Visitor’s Centre, caravan parks, and other popular visitor attractions (Tourist Card) and local social hubs eg coffee shops to reach residents (Your library online).
  • Use the media release template and include quotes from your local spokesperson (Mayor or Council CEO). Send this to local media – newspaper, radio, and television if appropriate. If you are able, it can be worthwhile to follow up a couple of days later with a phone call, asking if they have received it and offering photo / interview opportunities.
  • You can also send information through to relevant organisations, websites etc for inclusion in their newsletters / enewsletters. Examples include: schools, local history groups, community clubsetc.

The Rural Libraries Queensland (RLQ) network – 28 local councils and 67 public libraries supported by State Library of Queensland – gives local library members access to a much larger catalogue.

The new online database gives local library members access the entire RLQ catalogue, including bestsellers, audio books, popular DVDs, large print books, magazines, ebooks, and free music downloads.

Search the catalogue, and reserve and renew loan items, or access State Library of Queensland’s online databases. All you need to do is use your current local library card or join for free.
