Lisa Moray Memorial Scholarship

The Community Foundation of the Hudson Valleyis pleased to accept nominations foran awardin honor of Lisa Moray.

Lisa had three loves in her life: her family, her friends, and basketball. To know Lisa was to know her family. They were her bastion of support for her every endeavor. Lisa loved her family deeply – and Lisa’s family loved her as much. She was a devoted and loving daughter to Butch and Donna, sister to Lori, Sherry and Debi, aunt to Heather, Jewel, Jess and Anthony, and sister-in-law to Jimmy and Greg.

Lisa was an amazing basketball player – but what was more impressive was her ability to make friends wherever she went. The diversity of these friends is a true testament to Lisa’s innate ability to transcend any group’s boundaries. Lisa’s acceptance of people, regardless of background, is what allowed her to love all of her friends so passionately. As Lisa’s intensity on the court brought up everyone’s level of play, her vibrant personality and humor caused those around her enjoy life as much as she did.

Lisa’s basketball career began at St. Martin de Porres CYO in 4th grade where she won Archdiocesan Championships. In 7th grade, Lisa embarked on her six year Ketcham varsity career where she scored 2021 points - the leading scorer in the WappingersCentralSchool District. In the off-season, Lisa played for the Hudson Valley Knights and empire state teams. She went on to play basketball on a full scholarship to SacredHeartUniversity where she continued to excel. As a freshman, she led her team in three-point shooting percentage and she set the Sacred Heart record for three-pointers in a season, during her junior year.

Lisa had plans for starting a Masters degree in Education and becoming a teacher. To those who had the privilege of knowing Lisa, she will forever be remembered for her loving personality and beautiful smile.
