JobSummary

To be accountable for delivering change projects as part of The University’s Data Capability Programme, to ensure operational efficiency and service improvement.

To manage three specific projects as part of the programme: delivering legislative change through the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR); the planning and delivery of the University’s new Student Information System incorporating the Student Journey; the HESA Data Futures project around sector and institutional data returns.

To manage project risk and issues through the effective engagement of key stakeholders including the project team and programme board and reporting on progress to senior stakeholders making sure they are kept informed throughout.

DetailedResponsibilities

  1. To manage Data Capability projects and activity taking responsibility for the successful completion of the programme of work.
  2. Formally identify and schedule work, resolve issues, manage risk, report progress, ensure that objectives are met within agreed timescales and produce full and comprehensive project documentation including project briefs, plans, initiation documents (including how quality is managed) risk and issue logs.
  3. Administer the monitoring and management of projects through the Data Capability Programme Board.
  4. Produce a benefits realisation delivery plan to be owned and monitored by the Data Capability Programme Board.
  5. To allocate work and responsibilities to members of the project team using a matrix management approach. Monitor and control team performance and the quality of work against plans, taking any necessary action to resolve issues.
  6. To have line management responsibility for Project Administrator(s) appointed to the Project Team.
  7. Where appropriate manage project budgets to ensure financial control and delivery of financial benefits. Advice on any additional investment requirements that arise as part of the planning and delivery of the programme. Monitor actual project performance and progress against the plans, advising on any necessary action to correct variances in quality, time scales or cost.
  8. Plan for the effective engagement of key stakeholders prior to and during the delivery of projects, defining communication channels and stakeholder groups. Co-ordinate relationships with and between key stakeholders, during the design, management and implementation of business change.
  9. Manage the project from initial requirement, through the various stages of specification of requirements, specification of design, through to implementation and training that may be required including working with other departments to understand training needs analysis.
  10. Identify added value through the further opportunities for change that present during project planning and delivery.

Experience / Higher Education Sector within either planning, information and intelligence, Governance or IT departments
Demonstrable experience of delivering successful business focussed projects in a complex and high pressure environment using recognised project management methodology and techniques.

Experience of administering and chairing meetings and managing conflicting views to ensure effective decision making
Presenting complex information and solutions to large audiences
