SENIOR YEAR TIMELINE FOR THE COLLEGE-BOUND
AUGUST – MAY
- Begin applying to colleges. Check deadlines, as these vary widely. Many competitive colleges and/or programs have early deadlines. Some colleges will waive the application fee if you have applied online or apply in person.
- After you have applied to a college, see Mrs. Kenney and request that an official transcript be sent. Your application is not complete until the college receives all required documentation.
- Apply for scholarships. Check out FHS Counseling webpage for scholarships
- Take the ACT or SAT to improve your score and qualify for PROMISE.
SEPTEMBER - OCTOBER
- Sign up for and attend College Fair at Potomac State on September 12
- Attend financial aid workshop for students on Friday,September 15, 2017at 11:30am. (Early Dismissal day – all seniors will be here for 4th block)
- Attend financial aid workshop for parents and students onSeptember 27, 2017at 6:30pm in auditorium.
- Complete the FAFSA @ October 1, NO LATER THAN MARCH 1
- Sign up for your FSA ID. You and your parents will need an FSA ID in order to sign your FAFSA electronically.
- Tri-State College Fair @ Allegany College 6:30 pm on Tuesday, October 10
- Apply for scholarships.
- Continue to discuss college plans and financial aid with parents/guardian.
- Take the ACT or SAT to improve your score and qualify for PROMISE.
- Sign up for and take the ASVAB if you want to consider the military as a way to pay for college. Given at Frankfort HS on November 9.
DECEMBER -JANUARY
- Students who have qualified for PROMISE and students who hope to qualify for PROMISE will register for the scholarship with Mrs. Middleton and Mrs. Kenney.
- Continue scholarship search.
- Check and meet institutional scholarship application deadlines, as they vary by school and program.
- Check e-mail for Student Aid Report (SAR) confirmation. Many scholarship applications require a copy of your SAR.
- Take the ACT or SAT to improve your score and qualify for PROMISE.
MARCH - JUNE
- FAFSA must be completed before MARCH 1 for maximum financial aid consideration and to receive the PROMISE Scholarship.
- Accept an offer for admission to your chosen college.
- Accept or modify financial aid award letters.
- Attend a freshman orientation and register for fall classes.
- Finish applying for scholarships.
- Take the ACT or SAT to improve your score and qualify for PROMISE. June is the last test date for seniors to get qualifying ACT/SAT scores.
- Before graduation, let Mrs. Kenney know where you will be attending college, so a final transcript can be sent.
