This week’s Black knight for 3/4 Grey goes to Sam Ettlestein. Sam is a 1st year player as a 4th grader and has shown tremendous growth throughout the season. He came into the season with not much skill or knowledge, having not played before, but always had a positive attitude and a desire to learn. He used hard work and determination to help him become a valuable member of our team as an offensive and defensive tackle. In Sherwood Grey’s medal game, Sam helped create a huge hole on one of our long touchdown runs that helped us build a commanding lead against Sunset Purple. It was a lead that we did not relinquish and Sam was a big part of it. Throughout this season Sam has been a pleasure to coach and his hard work and positive attitude have been a great example for his teammates to follow. Sherwood Grey is proud to call Sam Ettlestein our Black Knight!

The Week 8 BN Award for 5/6 Black goes to Jacob Irish. Jacob powered through practice this week nursing a hamstring injury, but came fired up and ready to play last Saturday against Clackamas. The Knight line was challenged all week to play tough and physical and Jacob did a great job doing exactly that. He spent a lot of time in the Clackamas backfield on defense which help hold Clackamas to under 100 yds of rushing for the game. This was highlighted by a couple of key tackles for losses on big on 3rd and 4th down. On offense, Jacob helped open up some big holes and a big Clackamas D-line for us to power in two short touchdowns. He also passed blocked well to allow for almost 80 yds of passing for the day as well. Jacob hadn’t played much offensive line before this year but has steadily improved this season. Jacob is a great kid who has all of the physical tools to become a fantastic player in the future. We have enjoyed coaching him this season. Thanks Jacob for playing tough on Saturday and for your help in making this season a successful one.

5/6 Sherwood White - This week’s Black Knight, # 77, Nick Garrison, is a great player and terrific kid. He is a great teammate in practice because he tries to make our guys better and in the game he can be counted on in literally every play. On Defense his middle linebacker position is rock solid and he often leads the team in tackles. On offense, from the right guard he allows us to run any play to his side no matter the personnel. Nick may be a 5th grader, but is a true leader on the team. Congratulations, it’s been a joy coaching you! Sherwood 5/6 White Coaching Staff

This week's Black Knight award for Grey 5/6 goes to Kyle Petty.Kyle has been a player that coaches love to have on their team for many reasons. The most important is Kyle's ability to play numerous positions on both offense & defense. Kyle plays both Right & Left Guard on offense and plays Linebacker on Defense. Kyle is the one who plays the games on Saturday the same way he practices during the week, with 100% energy & effort on every snap no matter where he lines up. You don't always hear Kyle during the game due to his quiet nature, but he leaves his mark on the field. What a great thing it is to have someone who can go jump into the O-line on either side & make the plays he is asked to. On defense this week he helped pump up our squad in the second half & make the plays necessary to hold a tough Scappoose team to only (1) touchdown. He helped our Knights rally for a big win as we enter the playoffs this week. With Kyle playing so well as a 5th grader, he will be a force to be reckoned with next year at the 6th grade level. Great job this season Kyle from all of us coaches and congratulations on a well deserved Black Knight award!

JV Cardinal - This week’s Black Night goes to Robbie Hunt. The Sherwood Cardinal coaches put out a challenge to their line last week to block with intensity to the whistle. Robbie showed everyone what that meant in Saturday’s game against Southridge Red. Robby had many great blocks but on three pulls he had de-cleaters. De-Cleaters are blocks that knock the defender back so hard their feet actually leave the ground. Way to go hard Robbie! Robbie has been a strong contributor to his team all year and together they have achieved a perfect 8-0 regular season and are play-off bound. Great job Robbie and all of the JV Cardinal team!

JV – White’s utility lineman and our starting nose tackle and this week’s Black Knight is Kai Stephens. He has played over the years both the left and right guard, as well as the tackle positions. His knowledge of the game, his commitment to hard work and his winning spirit has been critical to our success. Kai is not a big kid as linemen go, but his huge heart and his quick feet make for an ability to beat the stripers, play after play. The JV – White coaches are proud to have Kai on our team and know that he has been a solid contributor every single week. Congratulations, Kai.

Evan Hager is the coaches' choice for the Black Knight for week 8 for the Sherwood Varsity Black Nights. While Evan is an outstanding receiver and has score several touchdowns this year from the tight end position, he is being honored for his dramatic improvement and exceptional performance blocking from this position. In reviewing film, it has become clear that one of the primary reasons our team is having so much success running the ball to the strong side is Evan's success in down blocking and getting to the right player at the right time. He continually scoops to the second level and takes out middle linebackers when the opportunity presents. Evan is also adept at weak-side blocking, both as a lead blocker on counter plays and as a cutoff to the safety on other weak-side sweeps. Evan is also performing well off the field in his schoolwork and we are proud of his hard work and devotion to this team.
