Chair’s Handbook
The Head, Staff and Governors hold an INSET Day at the start of the Autumn term where information is compiled ready to produce the School Development Plan. A Summer Term Questionnaire is produced for all stakeholders to comment and feeds into the SDP. All Providing excellent ownership.

Members of the governing body have been allocated to each of these sections. The role of the governor is to ensure they are fully conversant with the relevant sections of the Ofsted’s School Inspection Handbook, particularly the grade descriptors. They must ensure that the relevant section of the SEF reflects a true view of the school and that the areas for improvement identified in the SEF are carried forward into SDP.
The Governor responsible for each section should lead discussion when monitoring performance each term at full board meetings.
It is very important in the new structure that the head keeps up to date with best practice teaching strategies and feeds, where appropriate, this knowledge to the teaching staff. General teaching issues will come from a general view of teaching methods and classroom control. Research has shown that quality of teaching is the biggest factor for improving outcomes for learners. Examples here are such things as creative curriculum, assessment without levels, developing coaching skills and peer observations, marking and feedback to pupils, home learning, speaking and listening project, behaviour management.
Assistant Head -CurriculumJane Matthews
Assistant Head – Assessment Luci Pickford
Curriculum Team Leaders
Specific issues regarding subjects in the curriculum will come from the Curriculum Team leaders who must help lead improvements in the teaching and learning in their subject area. They must carry out a developmental role. Curriculum Team Leads will also review the SAT results in their subject and identify where improvements need to be made.
An Annual report is made to full governors on each subject area.
