Youth Festival

October 11-12, 2012

Organized by Kadi Sarva Vishwavidyalaya

General Rules for Participation in the Youth Festival

1.  All participants who are regular students must bring their identity card with a photograph duly signed by the principal of the college. Accompanists however should bring an authority letter from the college as it is required.

2.  A participant can take part maximum in three events.

3.  The Jury has the right to accept/reject any performance without stating any reason.

4.  Participating college can send at least one, if necessary two, in-charge professors, who will maintain a liaison with the organizing Committee of youth festival.

5.  Only three calls will be given during the event to call the participant for the performance. The individual or the team will have to report at the stage. Failing which, the next team/individual, will be called to perform.

6.  The Convener and the Organizing Committee will appoint Event In-charges, committee members & officials to conduct the competitions and make announcements. No other teacher/student will be allowed to intervene in the organization of the event or performances.

7.  The Convener and the Organizing Committee has the right to delay / postpone any item due to unavoidable circumstances.

8.  Individuals / Teams will compete according to the schedule prepared by the Organizing Committee.

9.  Colleges and participants are requested to make the photo copies of the registration form and the College summary sheet as per their requirement.

10.  Registration Forms with Summary sheet, duly filled, should be submitted to the Organizing Committee latest by October 5, 2012.

Who can participate?

A. Eligibility Rules:

1.  Only bonafide, full time student, who is enrolled for a degree or post degree or diploma course which is of a minimum duration of one academic year and whose examination is conducted by the University subsequent to passing the 12th class examination under the 10+2 pattern of education conducted by a recognized Board of Higher Secondary/Senior Secondary in the country or an equivalent examination shall be eligible to participate in the Inter University Cultural Activities.

2.  Students of our University shall be considered to be bonafide students and shall be eligible to participate provided they fulfill other conditions. However, students enrolled in correspondence course, casual students, external students and students pursuing bridge courses shall not be eligible.

3.  Not more than 7 years have elapsed since a student passed the examination qualifying him/her for first admission to a degree or diploma course of a University or College affiliated to a University.

4.  A student employed on full time basis shall not be eligible to participate.

5.  A student shall not be allowed to represent more than one University during a single academic year.

6.  Provisional admission to a course of a University or College shall not make the student eligible to represent the University.

7.  In case of a student migrating from one University to another, his/her migration case will be considered eligible only after his/her admission in the new University is regularized and he/she is admitted as a bonafide student by the new University.

B. Explanations:

1. For the purpose of computing years of eligibility, one year means the academic year in which the cultural activity is held irrespective of whether the student’s result is declared or not. It will normally be extended from June/July to 12 calendar months of the next year.

C. Disqualifications for violation of Eligibility Rules:

1. Any disqualification of a participant on grounds of ineligibility will result in the automatic scrapping of the contingent for that academic year. The contingent shall also be debarred from participating in the youth cultural activities to be held in the following years.

EVENT WISE RULES

1.  Music:

(a) Classical Vocal Solo: (Hindustani/Karnataka)

(1) Only one entry per Institute is allowed.

(2) Time for Stage / Instruments setting is maximum 5 minutes.

(3) Maximum number of accompanists is two.

(4) Item can be presented in either Hindustani or Karnataki Style.

(5) Cinema songs are not allowed under this item.

(6) Sufficient thought and care must be exercised in the choice of raga and composition.

(7) Judgment will be based on the qualities like swara, tal, selection of raga, composition and general impression.

(8) Duration of performance - 10 minutes.

(9) No electronic devices or pre-recorded music is allowed.

(b) Classical Instrumental Solo (Percussion-Tal Vadya)

(includes tabla, dholak, mridang, pakhawaj, etc ; does not include drums, congo, octopad, etc)

(1) Only one entry per Institute is allowed.

(2) Time for Stage / Instruments setting is maximum 5 minutes.

(3) Maximum number of accompanists is two.

(4) Participants must bring their own instruments.

(5) Item can be presented in either Hindustani or Karnataki Style.

(6) Judgment will be based on the qualities like tal, selection of Raga, composition and general impression.

(7) Duration of performance - 10 minutes.

(c) Classical Instrumental Solo (Non-percussion-swar vadya)

(1) Only one entry per Institute is allowed.

(2) Time for Stage / Instruments setting is maximum 5 minutes.

(3) Maximum number of accompanists is two.

(4) Participants must bring their own instruments, casio/electrical instrument is not allowed.

(5) Instruments of western origin adapted to the Indian Raga system are allowed.

(6) Item can be presented in either Hindustani or Karnataki Style.

(7) Judgment will be based on the qualities like tal, selection of raga, composition and general impression.

(8) Duration of performance - 10 minutes.

(d) Light Vocal (Indian):

(1) Only one vocalist per Institute is allowed

(2) Time for Stage / Instruments setting is maximum 2 minutes

(3) The number of accompanists would not be more than two

(4) Duration of the song shall be between 4 to 6 minutes

(5) Only non-film songs/geet/ghazal/bhajan/shabad and abhanga can be presented

(6) Judgment will be based on the qualities like swara, tal, selection of raga, composition and general impression etc.

(7) Electronic devices are allowed but no pre-recorded music (Karaoke) is permitted.

(8) No film song should be presented.

(e) Light Vocal (Western):

(1) Only one entry per Institute is allowed

(2) Time for Stage / Instruments setting is maximum 2 minutes

(3) The number of accompanists would not be more than two

(4) Duration of performance shall be between 4 to 6 minutes

(5) Language of the song shall only be English

(6) Judgment will be made on the qualities like composition, rhythm, co-ordination and general impression etc.

(7) Electronic devices are allowed but no pre-recorded music (Karaoke) is permitted.

(8) No film song should be presented.

(f) Group Song (Indian):

(1) Only one Team per Institute is allowed

(2) Two group songs will be presented by the same team out of which one will be Folk songs while another Patriotic song.

(3) Maximum number of singers in a group should not be more than six and minimum 3. Maximum number of accompanists playing instruments shall be three

(4) The group songs should be taken from Indian songs which can be only regional language

(5) No film song should be presented as group song

(6) Maximum time allowed for the group song is 10 minutes which does not include setting time. The setting time for a group shall not exceed 4 minutes

(7) Judging of this item will be on the basis of quality of singing only and not on make-up, costumes and actions of the team.

(8) Electronic devices are allowed but no pre-recorded music (Karaoke) is permitted.

(g) Group Songs (Western):

(1)Only one entry per Institute is allowed.

(2)Maximum 6 singers in a group and minimum 3. Maximum number of accompanists playinginstrumentsshall be three.

(3)The group songs should be taken from English language.

(4)Maximum time allowed for the group song is 6 minutes and minimum time is 3 minutes which does not includesettingtime. The setting time for a group shall not exceed 4 minutes.

(5)Judging of this items will be on the basis of quality of singing only and not on make-up, costumes and actions of the team.

(6) Electronic devices are allowed but no pre-recorded music (Karaoke) is permitted.

N.B.: In the item of Group Song (Indian) there will be a limit of 4 (four) instruments including all the instruments played by the accompanists & student. Student can play only one Instrument from the team participating.

2. Dance:

(a) Folk/Tribal Dance:

(1) Only one Team per Institute is allowed

(2) Maximum number of participants allowed per team is ten and minimum should be 6. The team may consist of all boys, all girls or a combination of both

(3) The number of accompanists permissible is five

(4) The dance can be either primitive or a folk dance (Indian style) but not a classical one

(5) Duration of the dance should be 8- 10 minutes.

(6) Three copies of a brief note (2-3 lines introduction) giving the theme and the text of the song is to be submitted compulsorily on the day of performance.

(7) The participating team will be responsible for removal of their sets properties etc. immediately after the completion of their performance

(8) Judgment will be based on the basis of Rhythm, Formation, Expression, Costumes, Make-up, Sets and Overall Effect.

(9) Time for Sets / Instruments setting is up to 5 minutes.

(10) C.D., Pen-drives, and pre-recorded music is allowed

(11) Songs from films are not allowed.

(b) Classical Dance (Indian):

(1) Each Institute can send only one entry

(2) The classical dance can be from any of the approved schools of dances such as Kathak, Kathakali, Bharat Natyam, Manipuri, Kuchipudi, Mohinittam and Odissi etc.
