PHYSICIAN POSTING

Geriatric Psychiatrists, Ambulatory Service, Providence Health Care (PHC)

ROLE DESCRIPTION

-  Provide geriatric psychiatry assessments and treatment as part of an interdisciplinary team in the Geriatric ambulatory clinic at St. Paul’s Hospital (SPH) or at Mt. St. Joseph’s Hospital (MSJ). This team will receive referrals from the hospital acute services, from geriatricians within the clinic, and from community health units. The model of care is collaborative. The geriatric psychiatry ambulatory team will closely collaborate with primary care physicians, the health units, other specialist physicians, Mental Health Central Intake Service, and PHC Acute Care services, to provide care for older adults with mental health needs.

The psychiatrist will be expected to support educational opportunities for the community regarding management of patients with late-life psychiatric illnesses.

The psychiatrist will be expected to be involved in teaching specific students assigned to the service.

The psychiatrist will be expected to participate in evaluation and quality improvement programs for the service.

The psychiatrist will participate in the on-call schedule (MOCAP), which covers Mount Saint Joseph Hospital.

QUALIFICATIONS

-  A medical degree and eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.

-  Specialist’s qualifications in psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or eligibility to write our CPS specialty exams in Psychiatry).

-  Eligibility for a clinical faculty appointment with the University of British Columbia School Department of Psychiatry meeting the required criteria

-  Candidates must meet credentialing requirements for PHC.

COMPENSATION

The psychiatrist will provide a minimum of four half-days per week in a blended billing model (sessional and fee-for-service). The psychiatrist is responsible for their own billings.
