It’s a very busy time of the year for District 12 Zontians for lots of reasons. Not only do we have holiday & family events taking place, but it’s also a busy time for Zonta fund-raisers and other programs. Your District Board will soon be holding its winter conference call (Jan. 7th), various reports are due, and District planning is already afoot for the coming biennium. This ‘Gram is a collection of information bits & resources that you may wish to save until you actually have a minute to read them! (But don’t wait ‘til January—OK?)

Three Reminders--Read & Heed!—

1.Please send that new member info and half-year dues (Dec. 1—May 31) to D12 Treasurer Bridget Masters ASAP.

2.The ZIF 12X12 Potluck Dinners are proving very popular. If you haven’t already, I highly recommend scheduling one for your club. Check with D12 ZIF Ambassador Nikki Headlee for details.

Remember that personal checks should be made payable to the Zonta International Foundation.

3.The Governors’ Reports are due December 22nd. If you have events planned celebrating Amelia Earhart’s Birthday or International Women’s Day, please let me know so that I can include them in my report. Any other news is welcome, too! Other than these updates, I will be using the reports from the Area Directors that were posted in the November Outreach.

ZI & ZIF Boards -- October Meeting Highlights--FYI--

In late October, the Zonta International and Zonta International Foundation Board meetings were held in Chicago. (Keep in mind that the same Directors are on both boards.) Highlights from these meetings are attached.

District 12 Identity Design--FYI--

Here are some of the tasks of the Identity Design (ID) Team:

  1. Develop the rationale for ‘Zonta D12 Brand use by all D12 clubs.
  2. Recommend guidelines for club websites & communications to carry out the D12 identity design.
-- specific information items needed(ie: logos, wording, links)

-- a suggested range of colors and designs for clubs to use.

  1. Produce templates for club websites, brochures, letterhead, business cards, for D12 Clubs to be able to use.
  2. Decide whether the new pin design should be incorporated into the District ID. The ID Team will also make a recommendation to the D12 Board regarding the winner of the D12 pin contest from among all entries.

From D12 ID Team Chair Janet Bergin:

“Our district is already ahead of the curve with our D12 website's look & coordination of sites, but we would like to up the level of sophistication and present an up-to-date branded look for all our clubs. Our D12 brochure is very nicely designed and could be a great jumping off point for the new look.
I spent quite a few hours looking at all the district's websites the other night. And there are a few that are very good examples. Some of the individual clubs sites are very good as well if you have the time to look at some of them.”
Two Great Resources--FYI—

Professional women are in the know regarding research, policy, business, history...

Here are some resources you can use in your club newsletters and at your club meetings:

1.Very informative website regarding gender-related policy issues:

For example:

  • Governing Climate Funds: What will work for women? theoretically ‘designed for everyone’ often result in negative consequences for women.Gender Action (GA) prepared this report at the request of the Women’s Environment and Development Organization (WEDO) and Oxfam in order to ascertain practices that could work for women in climate change financing.
  • New series on Gender, IFIs and Gender Based Violence (GBV) GBV primerdemonstrates that International Financial Institution policies and investments fail to address GBV as a human rights issue…
  1. Possible Club Program Resource -- from National Women’s History Museum

An informative & interesting 3-part film regarding women’s history in the United States. Brief enough for a club program.

Torino 2012 Convention – D12 DelegationPlease get the word out to your club members!

In the interest of facilitating your convention planning, Terri Otley (Denver II) has researched and provided an estimate of 2012 average Convention costs. The attached ‘Exp estimate’ includes upgradeable airfare (Denver—Torino), double occupancy in the closet convention hotels, meals, and registration for all convention events (excluding the pizza dinner, but including the gala closing ceremony). To register, just go to the website & follow the cues from there.

Terri is also coordinating our District’s attendee information for the 2012 convention. We in District 12 not only like sharing these momentous occasions with our District friends, but we help to provide safety & support to each other with this information. Terri needs to know the following from each D12 Zontian who will be attending:

~your arrival/departure dates

~the hotel where you are staying & your roommate’s name

~your cell phone #

~ your e-mail address.

This information should be sent to Terri at as soon as you make your convention, flight, & lodging plans. At the District meeting on the first Saturday of the convention, you will be provided a spreadsheet with this info on all D12 Convention attendees.

Here’s a photo of the Centro Congressi Lingotto auditorium where the ZI Convention plenary sessions will take place.

It has been an absolute delight to have visited with numerous clubs in the past month. It is my greatest privilege as your Governor to get to share a bit in the dedication, diligent planning, and celebrations of your clubs.

Thank youfor making a real difference to women & their families in your communities and around the world!

Sending you all wishes of peace & good will…
