Third Grade Newsletter –September 15, 2017

We had an exciting week! We swam in P.E., wrote new journal entries, played exciting math games, and continued our geography unit. Your children have adapted well to the new routines in third grade. You should be very proud!

Pictures

Tuesday is picture day. All students will have individual pictures taken for the school yearbook. If you would like to purchase individual pictures, please complete the order form that came home in orange folders last week. Please return the order form and payment by Tuesday. You may return it in the orange folder or in the green homework folder.

Reading Logs

Reading logs came home this week. The reading logs are in the back of the green homework folders. Reading is an important part of our curriculum and reading minutes are tracked for report cards. It is very important that your child reads 100 minutes a week. Ideally, students should read five nights a week, and one night each weekend. However, it is your child’s choice when to read. Students are expected to meet the reading goal each week. Please help them remember to read, and to write in their logs. In third grade, we want the students to write their entries in their reading logs. Parents, you can take a break from this duty!

Conferences

We are excited to meet with you to discuss your child’s progress so far in third grade. We will conference on October 5 and 6. Please sign up for a conference time through the Google doc sent home via email last Friday. If you have any questions, please contact us.

Help wanted!

Volunteers are needed for the book fair. No experience is necessary! If you have an hour or more to spare, please consider helping Mrs.

Atkins with the book fair. Please email Mrs. Atkins directly at .

Completed Work Folders

As mentioned at Back to School night, completed work folders are orange, and come home each Friday. Please remember the work that comes home is a very small portion of classroom instruction. Much of our learning and teaching is hands-on, and this isn’t always reflected in the completed work folder. Empty folders should be returned each Monday. Thank you!
