Third Grade Homework News for February 22-26, 2016


English: verb tenses
Writing: informative (explanative) writing
Spelling Words:
No spelling this week / Monday-Thursday: Read at least 30 minutes each night and have a parent/ guardian sign your planner.
Monday- Review vocabulary words. Words and meaning are
located on Mrs. Wade’s webpage under Fabulous
Vocabulary.
Tuesday- Write a story using all 10 vocabulary words. Remember to use correct
punctuation and capitalization. Review vocabulary words for quiz on Friday.
Wednesday-Review vocabulary words for quiz Friday. Complete 3 activities on RAZ-
Kids.com.
Thursday- Draw a picture of each vocabulary word. 70% of AR goal due.
Friday- Quiz over vocabulary words.
This week, we are reading a chapter from the novel, Ramona Quimby, Age 8. Students will look at character traits and what motivates characters to do certain things.
Students should continue working on RAZ-Kids as much as possible. This is a great way for them to strengthen comprehension and vocabulary skills. Please make sure your child is working on the correct level. Students working below level will not have the same benefits.
We have several students close to meeting the 500,000 words read and a few almost to 1,000,000! Please continue to encourage your child to meet these skills.
If you have any questions, please email me at . / This week students learn to measure the perimeter of plane shapes, and we also start the fraction unit. We will have an assessment on perimeter this Friday. You may visit my web page to see the specific standards that your child is learning. If you are able, please purchase an analog wrist watch for your child. The measurement unit is next.

The last day for students to take an AR test for the third grading period is March 16th. Students will receive two grades from AR; percentage of goal complete and average of test scores. 70% of AR goal due THURSDAY
Students are learning all about fossil animals and plants and how they relate to those of modern day.
No homework this week! / This week in Social Studies, we will be finishing up our learning on FDR and goods and services. Then, we will learn about Eleanor Roosevelt and why she is considered an American hero. We will learn about human rights and the United Nations. We'll also discuss the four productive resources--human (labor), natural (air, water, plants, sunlight), capital (goods and services), and entrepreneurship (business owners). Students will take AR tests on both FDR and Eleanor which will each count as a Social Studies grade.
Homework
DUE DAILY- Students should complete a map assignment (in a packet) nightly. It will be checked daily. Students should complete the Thursday and Friday assignments Thursday night. Challenge activities and very detailed coloring of the map can be completedfor bonus points. / February Birthdays
