What can Volunteers do?

There are limited positions for volunteers at the Canandaigua VA including the Rochester Outpatient Clinic. Areas include escorting Veterans to appointments for Services, clerical, and recreational aids for program and activities. Please indicate your assignment preferences on the Volunteer Application. Bring the Application to the Voluntary Service Office. The Volunteer Staff will do their best to find you a position that serves our Veteran patients and that you will enjoy.

Requirements to Volunteer:

Print and sign/complete the following:

1.  Fill out and sign Volunteer Application

2.  Sign the Statement of Commitment of Understanding

3.  After you have read the Orientation packet, print and sign the front page

4.  Back ground check/ badge information form

1.  Complete Fingerprint and background check at the Canandaigua VA Medical Center. One form of State or Government picture ID is needed. (If Rochester Outpatient Clinic is a more convenient location please contact Voluntary Service for details)

2.  After you dropped off your application you will have to complete a TB test, required to volunteer. You may stop in the LAB; in Bldg 1 or ROPC Lab before 1:00PM to do so. Please wait one week (or more) after we have met with you. If you have had a TB test in the past year please provide documentation.

3.  When background is clear, which takes up to two weeks, potential volunteer is contacted and a start date is scheduled.

If you cannot complete the paperwork online, you can attend a new volunteer orientation in person, which are held on Thursdays at 10am. Please call to reserve your spot.

Volunteer Drivers

Are you interested in becoming a Volunteer Transportation Network Driver to help our Nation's finest get to their appointments? If so, please review health screening check list, and if you qualify, apply as noted above. Prior to your appointment with a staff member in VS, you will be asked to complete this driver check list to bring with you. Please do not start the checklist prior to receiving confirmation of your appointment.

Drivers operate vans donated by the Disabled American Veterans for this purpose, and are insured and fueled by VA – there are no expenses to the volunteer driver.
