Slide 4 - Slide 4

Slide notes

Hello, my name is Rupal. Welcome to the Release 9 Training for Oracle Applications Cloud Project Management Enhancements. In this session, we’ll cover the Requirements Management enhancements we have made in this release to help you manage your Agile projects.

Notes

Slide 5 - Agenda

Slide notes

For the enhancements covered in this training, we’ll give an overview, followed by more detail to explain how you can use them, and what business value they bring.

Then we’ll walk you through a demonstration of the flows.

Next we’ll explain what you need to consider before enabling these features in your business, and what you need to know to set them up.

Slide 6 - Enhancements Overview

Slide notes

In this presentation, I will show you how the new features in Release 9 help your project managers plan and manage requirements more efficiently.

You can use the Project Requirements work area to define and track multiple levels of project requirement hierarchies.

For example, you can define themes and then break each theme into epic stories or features.

You can decompose requirements into a prioritized set of backlog items that have user stories, acceptance criteria , story points and project tasks.

If your project methodology is Agile, you have the option to directly create projects and tasks from the Manage Backlog Items page.

The Manage Backlog Items page is enhanced to provide better search capability for the backlog items. You can create customized saved search views to capture frequently performed searches. We have also added the Scrum Master attribute that can be captured for every backlog item.

Once the backlog items are defined, you can track their status from the graphical Requirements storyboard.

In an Agile environment a project manager may act as a product owner or scrum master, or the project manager acts in a traditional role and individual team members act as scrum masters and product owners. People acting as scrum masters and product owners collaborate on the management of the product backlog in the Requirements Work Area as they manage the overall project.

Notes

Slide 7 - Create Multilevel Requirement Hierarchy

Slide notes

You can create requirements from the Manage Requirement Hierarchy page to initiate your requirement planning. You can capture the name, owner, release, product, and the status and priority of the requirement. If the requirement is incorrectly created under a parent, you can move it to another parent. You can search for the requirements by their attributes and also save a frequently performed search into a customizable view. A search returns all requirements that meet the search results, as well as all parent requirements to maintain the full context, even if the parent requirements do not meet the search criteria.

The number of levels you create depends on your business needs. For example, start a hierarchy with themes and then break each theme into epic stories or features.

Notes

Slide 8 - Create Backlog Items Under a Requirement

Slide notes

Once the requirements are created, product owners can create backlog items under them. The Manage Requirement Hierarchy page allows quick creation of backlog items in the context of a requirement. Product owners can select a requirement and create backlog items under it by simply specifying a backlog item name. The newly created backlog item inherits all attributes from the requirement. Product owners can view all the backlog items under a requirement hierarchy node in the Manage Requirement Hierarchy page. They can navigate to the Manage Backlog Items page for complete definition and management of backlog items.

Notes

Slide 9 - View Backlog Items in Requirement Hierarchy

Slide notes

Once the requirement hierarchy is set up and backlog items are created, product owners can get a quick view of the backlog items without leaving the Manage Requirement Hierarchy page. They can simply navigate the requirement hierarchy and view the backlog items associated to the selected requirement. They can view the status of the backlog items, and if required, move them from one requirement to another.

Notes

Slide 10 - Create and Associate Project to Backlog items

Slide notes

In the Manage Backlog Items page, project managers can manage the complete definition of the backlog items. You can now easily create a project in the context of a backlog item.

The newly created project can be associated to one or more backlog items from this page. The attributes captured for the project here are identical to those captured against a project from the Project Management work area. The project created here is also immediately available in the Project Management work area.

Notes

Slide 11 - Create and Associate Tasks to Backlog Items

Slide notes

You can now perform lightweight project planning for an Agile project from the Manage Backlog Items page. Once a backlog item is associated to a project, project managers can create project tasks from the Manage Backlog Items page. A new tab is introduced in the Backlog Item Details region to manage tasks. Here, you can create new tasks and assign planning dates and resources to the tasks. The application adds these tasks to the highest-level of the project plan, and you can later update the tasks directly in the project plan.

The ability to create projects and tasks from the Manage Backlog Items page, gives project managers the flexibility to manage Agile projects without leaving the Project Requirements work area.

Notes

Slide 12 - Assign Scrum Master to a Backlog Item

Slide notes

A scrum is coordinated by a scrum master who helps the team stay focused on product delivery by resolving any issues that distract them. Product Owners can assign scrum master to every backlog item from the Manage Backlog Items page. During scrum meetings, the scrum masters can search for backlog items assigned to them and review the status of backlog items with the scrum team.

Notes

Slide 13 - Requirement Storyboard

Slide notes

After you scope the backlog items and assign them to sprints, scrum masters can get a quick overview of the backlog items by their status. Requirement Storyboard is a graphical representation of backlog items by their status. Backlog item cards are displayed in swim lanes with each swim lane representing a status. The application displays the Requirement Storyboard when scrum masters open the Project Requirements work area. This gives scrum masters an immediate picture of how backlogs are progressing through sprints. During scrum meetings, scrum masters can view the backlog items in the Requirement Storyboard. They can update the status of backlog items by simply dragging and dropping backlog items from one status lane to another.

Slide 14 - Requirements Management Enhancements

Slide notes

The Requirements Management feature of Oracle Fusion Project Management provides a complete solution for your Agile project management needs. You can create a flexible requirement hierarchy based on the business requirements and decompose the requirements into backlog items that the scrum team can work on. The scrum team, lead by the scrum master, can share information with other team members using the user stories, acceptance criteria and deliverables associated to backlog items. Scrum team members can be globally situated in different locations but will still be able to access the exact same information and know the progress of the backlog items.

Notes

Slide 15 - Requirements Management Enhancements

Slide notes

Project Managers can now associate tasks to backlog items and view the task status from the Project Requirements work area. This information can be very useful in scrum meetings as the task status can be discussed and the backlog item progress can be easily monitored. Based on the team updates, backlog items can be easily moved to another status in the simple and easy to use Requirement Storyboard.

Requirements Management is also enhanced to help you retrieve your backlog items faster by providing better search capabilities.

To summarize, Requirements Management feature provides the complete solution required for your Agile project management needs.

Notes

Slide 18 - Summary of Enhancement Capabilities

Slide notes

In summary, Requirements Management gives you a complete solution for Agile Project Management. You can create a multilevel requirement hierarchy based on your business needs. You can manage backlog items at any level of the requirement hierarchy from Manage Requirement Hierarchy page. You can create projects and tasks without leaving the Requirements Work area from the Manage Backlog Items page.

Notes

Slide 19 - Summary of Enhancement Capabilities

Slide notes

The new feature enhancements also allow you to perform better searches. You can utilize the enhanced search model to search for backlog items and requirements and create personalized views for frequently performed searches.

You can assign scrum masters to backlog items, which enables the scrum masters to better manage their backlog items.

Finally, scrum masters can track backlog item status from the requirement storyboard. They can get a graphical view of backlog items and quickly move them to another status based on the data they have collected from their team members.
