The Breckinridge County Board of Education met for a regular meeting on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 4:30 p.m. local time at the Breckinridge County Board of Education Central Office.

Chairperson Tonia Saettel called the meeting to order.

The following members were present: Mrs. Tonia Saettel, Mrs. Vanessa Lucas, Mr. Jeremy Mattingly, and Mrs. Joy Campbell. Mr. Dean Hobbs was absent.

#23. ROUTINE CONSENT ACTIONS

A. Approve minutes – Regular meeting Thursday, July 14, 2016 and special called meeting Tuesday, August 2, 2016

B. Approve treasurer’s orders

  2. Approve ARC Chairpersons to serve in the absence of the Principal
  3. Approve to apply for Work Ready Skills Initiative Grant

#24. STUDENT PRESENTATION AND/OR RECOGNITION

Dr. Meeks recognized several individuals and groups. The groups recognized were 2016 Breckinridge County Fair Spelling Bee winners, Breckinridge County High School Cheerleaders, and winners from the Special Olympics Regional Golf Tournament held at Shawnee Golf Course in Louisville, KY.

#25. HEAD START REPORT

Jarrod Brockman, Head Start/Preschool Director, presented his report statingthat the program will begin the year fully enrolled. Mr. Brockman noted how excited both he and staff are to begin the new year.

#26. APPROVE MEMBER WITH EXPERTISE IN EARLY CHILDHOOD

EDUCATION TO HEAD START GOVERNING BOARD

Moved by Mrs. Lucas and seconded by Mrs. Campbell to approve the recommendation of Jenny Camp as a member with expertise in Early Childhood Education to the Head Start Governing Board.

Motion carried 4-0.

#27. HEAR UPDATE ON IRVINGTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Sherman, Carter, Barnhart architect Kenny Stansfield presented an update on construction activities of the new Irvington Elementary school. He stated that the project is going very well. Mr. Stansfield also noted how clean the job site has been kept during the construction.

#28. APPROVE DEDUCT CHANGE ORDER 19-1 IN THE AMOUNT OF $4,670.00

TO GBMC, INC. FOR THE NEW IRVINGTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Moved by Mrs. Lucas and seconded by Mr. Mattingly to table approving deduct change order 19-1 in the amount of $4,670.00 to GBMC, Inc. for the new Irvington Elementary School.

Motion carried 4-0.

#29. DISCUSS DESIGN OPTIONS AND APPROVE SCHEMATIC DESIGN OF NEW

HARDINSBURG ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Dean Hobbs entered meeting.

Moved by Mrs. Campbell and seconded by Mrs. Lucas to approve schematic design of new Hardinsburg Elementary School with an addendum which includes a 10 foot indention of the area labeled as gym storage for a stage area.

All members voted aye.

#30. APPROVE CONTRACT WITH AEI FOR ENGINEERING SERVICES FOR

NEW HARDINSBURG ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Moved by Mr. Mattingly and seconded by Mr. Hobbs to approve a contract in the amount of $16,500.00 with AEI for engineering services for new Hardinsburg Elementary School.

All members voted aye.

#31. PROPOSE AND SET TAX RATES

Moved by Mrs. Lucas and seconded by Mr. Mattinglyto approve the real estate and personal property tax rate at 53.2 cents per $100 of assessed property. Approved rate does not require a public hearing pursuant to KRS 160.470(2).
