Themes: Father’s Day Lessons and Ice Cream

Dear Kindergarten Families:

Field Day was a lot of fun, and couldn’t be done without our volunteers! Thank you to all the family members and friends who volunteered for this day. The kids had a great time. Mrs. Frederick and her crew put a lot of time into this fun annual event for the kids.

Science: Last week we observed and documented physical characteristics of red worms and night crawlers. They also should have brought home a pet worm in that plastic covered container! That ends our 3 Kindergarten science units! I hope they enjoyed those lessons. I love science.

Math: Focus is on 3D Shapes and review of adding, subtracting, and number-writing.

Luau Picnic: Our KindergartenLuau Picnicis THISFriday, June 10! Thank you, Room Parents, and all the families who will be contributing and helping with the party. Please send in any non-perishable and monetary donations now.

RAIN PLAN: If it is raining at our 10 a.m. departure time, check your emails for updates. We may leave later (11:15?) and just have our picnic and awards under the pavilion that we reserved. Families are welcome to come to the park celebration. Mrs. Bruveris and I will take care of some in-class fun for the kids if they are unable to play at the park.

If you or any family members are not GPW residents and plan on coming to the picnic, please tell the staff at the park entrance that you are there for the “Monteith Kindergarten Picnic” and they will allow you in.

Summer: Some summer activities and websites will be sent home soon to help keep the learning going. When we see how far each child progresses in the 3 months between cardmarkings, you have to wonder how far they can go in the summer when given opportunities to continue learning-- not just academically, but also socially and in general life skills. Family time together is so important in this fast-paced world, where children grow up so fast.

** Send your child’s backpack to school every day through next week – even on Luau day and on the half days!
