Theme: Welcome Back to School Materials: voice chart, beat/rhythm signs

Concept: Vocal model, high/low voices, beat/rhythm , quarter note and eighth note pairs ta titi

I DON’T KNOW

Use Movie 10. Students will identify singing and speaking voices.

1.  Show pictures of male adult voice, children’s choir singing voices, child solo singing voice and child speaking solo and review

2.  Hand out identification paper with all four voices on it. Have students point to voice they hear as they listen to the song “I Don’t Know”

3.  Describe what the children’s choir voices sound like

4.  Repeat movie having students sing “I don’t know” responses

5.  Which voice does the choir use? Shouting, singing or speaking

THESE ARE GRANDMA’S GLASSES

In a high voice: These are Grandma’s Glasses, This is Grandma’s hat. This is the way she folds her hands and lays them in her lap.

In a low voice: These are Grandpa’s glasses, This is Grandpa’s hat. This is the way he folds his arms and then he take a nap!

Use Poem 9a. Students will use high and low voices while reciting poem.

Teacher will demonstrate poem with actions and appropriate voicing. Students will learn poem and recite with actions and appropriate voicing.

COUNTING SONG

Use PPT12. Students will demonstrate beat and rhythm. Students will demonstrate one and two sounds on a beat.

Slide 2 – Sing and pat the beat. Sing and tap rhythm in palm of hand

Slide 8 – read slide and explain that we will sing the song and students will either keep the beat or rhythm depending on what card the teacher holds up

Slide 2 – teacher holds up beat sign first and switches to rhythm in the middle. Do this game several times until everyone can switch between the two properly.

Slide 9 – hand out beat charts to students to use with singing song, touch beat

Slide 10 – touch rhythm

Slide 11 & 12 – discover sounds on beats

Hand out colored sticks and have students use one for ta and two for ti-ti to show rhythm of the song

If time permits
