6:05: GAME: News paper Race
Equipment: 1 newspaper
Method: Each Joey Scout is provided with 2 sheets of newspaper which they use to run the race. They can only step on the newspapers. This is done by stepping on one piece. Lay the other in front adjoining themselves then stepping on it. Retrieving the first piece of paper from behind which they now place in front of themselves and step on. Moving forward in this fashion. First one to reach the finish line is the winner.
6:10 GAME: Clean up! Equipment –scrunched up newspaper
Scatter newspaper throughout the hall...... Have a central hoop with a Joey or leader standing inside.....Joeys must run to gather as much paper as possible and place in the hoop, the person in the hoop needs to throw the paper out as quickly as possible. Swap Joey inside.
6:15:GAME: Lets recycle! Talk about the different types of materials that can be recycled. Have a group of each type of rubbish around the hall. Form 2 teams – One at a time 2 joeys from each team move a wheel barrow around the hall to collect the rubbish in their wheelbarrow. Then teams have to sort the rubbish into the correct bins! 3 bins; yellow green and red and an assortment of ‘rubbish’.
6:25: CRAFT: Recycled Creations
Provide Joeys with a variety of recycled materials. Joeys create their own Recycled Creations using tape and the materials provided.
Fast finishers – Discuss the time it takes for different materials to break down and decompose.
6:45 GAME: What is it? In 2 circles of Joeys, lay out a piece of newspaper. Joeys come to the middle of the circle and pretend the newspaper is something else (a blanket, a hat, a slide) Reinforce that by recycling we can re-use things and give them a new purpose.
EXTRA GAME: Matchbox races - Slide the interior of the match box so that it is just barely in the outer sleeve of the box. Blow into the empty end, and watch the box go flying out the other end. Have races to see how far you can blow the boxes.
