About Speakers:

Pastor Edwin Lin:

Edwin was born in Singapore, but moved to the US when he was only 5 years old. It was not until his freshman year of high school that he turned to Jesus Christ, realizing that Jesus was the only solid foundation that he could build his life around. Although his parents were the ones to bring him to church, they stopped going because of personal conflicts. Edwin continued to pursue a relationship with God in college, where God grew him through leadership experiences with Campus Crusade for Christ. In 2014, Edwin completed his PhD in sociology from the University of California, Berkeley and is now teaching there as a lecturer. He is currently working as a part-time pastor at Breakaway Christian Fellowship and is attending Western Seminary.

Bio forDr. Clark:

Dr. Clark received his B.S. degree in 1967 from Calvary Bible College. He attended Bethel Theological Seminary for two years before transferring toTrinity Theol. Seminary,where he finished his M.Div. in 1989. He earned his Ph.D. in 1993 from Trinity College and Seminary. He started at Calvary heading up the Biblical Counseling program for both the college and seminary in 1993. He also served11 years as academic dean and from 2009 through 2016he served asPresident. Dr. Clark retired this past May (2016) as President Emeritus of Calvary University. Dr. Clark has served over 20 years in the local church ministry as associate pastor and senior pastor. He also served as a chaplain for a community college, a Minnesota correctional facility, and a volunteer fire department. Prior to the pastorate, he served as an Executive Director for Southeast Iowa Youth For Christ/ Dr. Clark and his wife, DeLoris, have three children and fifteen grandchildren.

Pastor Steve Tan - Assistant pastor at Emmanuel Chinese Baptist Church in Overland Park, Kansas.

Steve was born and raised in Malaysia, and he came to Christ at the age of 13. In Fall 1991, he came to Wichita, Kansas for college in Wichita State University. There Steve graduated with a bachelor degree in mechanical engineering and a master degree in electrical engineering. 1998, right after his graduation, he moved to Kansas City to work as software engineer. Steve met his beautiful wife, Mandy Hu, here in ECBC and we got married in2000.

Starting from 2001, the Lord called Steve to study part-time in Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. In 2006, hedecided to be a full time student. By the grace of God, ECBC was willing to use him as a minister. Steve then graduated from MBTS with a Master of Art in Biblical Language in 2008. In 2007, he began to serve in youth ministry. In 2016, he began to preach regularly in our Cantonese service.

Mandy and Steve have three beautiful children and they are Joseph Tan, Benjamin Tan and Ruth Tan. He enjoys being with young people. He loves teaching the Bible and helping people to understand God’s word, apply His word in life, live our life with spiritual disciplines and carry out His great commission together.

Rev. Douglas R. Vavrosky D.Min; PhD

Doug Vavrosky has been a missionary to the Chinese for thirty-six years, twelve years in Taiwan and the rest of the time in the United States. He and his wife Avril have been church planters, tribal workers, evangelists, pastors, conference speakers, factory ministers, student workers and leaders in OMF International (formerly the China Inland Mission) the mission board that they have been affiliated with. Doug is an associate professor of cross cultural studies at Logos Evangelical Seminary and he also serves as the director of the Chicago branch of Logos.

Pastor Dan Matsuoka

Breakaway/CCIC Mission Team

Dan came to CCIC-SV’s Youth Group as an 8th Grader in 1997. Dan studied History at UCLA when he felt the call by God into full-time ministry while being involved in campus ministry at UCLA Crossroads Campus Ministries, and then received his Master of Divinity degree from Talbot School of Theology in December of 2011. After serving part-time in College Ministry and in Worship Ministry while attending seminary, Dan decided to moveback home to San Jose and to return to CCIC-SV full time. Dan’s primary focus is working with the youth group. He is also involved in the English congregation’s worship ministry. His passion and vision is for God’s people to learn more about the grace of God so that they can become disciples to do the same.
