The Wrotham Wiki: User Guide

A wiki is a website where everyone can contribute information to build it up. It is run for the community, by the community. This guide outlines some of the basic knowledge required to use the wiki to its full potential.

Log in, log out, and register

While you can use some features of the wiki without an account, there are some features that you must be signed in to use.

Register on the site

  1. In the top-right of all pages, there will be a button that says 'Create account'. There will also be information about your IP address, which I have covered up in this screenshot for security reasons. Press the 'Create account' button.

  2. You will see a form asking for a username, password, e-mail address and real name. You are required to provide a username and password, however, you may decide whether you wish to provide your e-mail address and your real name. Fill out the form and press 'Create your account'

  3. You have successfully created an account!

Creating Pages

Creating a page on the wiki is very simple. To create a page, all you have to do is:

  1. Find the search box in the top-right of every page.

  2. Type the name of the page you wish to create, and press enter.

  3. If the page already exists, you will be able to follow a link to the page and start editing it (See below for how to edit pages). If it doesn't exist, you will see a button saying “Create the page _____ on this wiki!” Press this button.

  4. You will arrive at a page which looks a lot like the edit page. From here, you can enter the content you wish to add to the wiki.

  5. Below the edit box, there is a box labelled 'Summary'. Please fill this in with a brief summary of what you have done. This is not required, however, it is helpful for other people if you fill this in.

  6. Below the summary box, there is a checkbox labelled 'Watch this page'. If you tick this box, the page will be added to your watchlist. This is a list of pages that you choose, which can be viewed using the 'Watchlist' button in the top-right of any page.

  7. Press 'Save page' to finish creating the page.

  8. You have successfully created a page!

Editing Pages

Editing a page is very similar to creating one.

  1. Find the search box in the top-right of every page.

  2. Type the name of the page you wish to edit, and press enter.

  3. If the page exists, you will be sent straight to the page. If the page doesn't exist, you will need to create it first (see above).
  4. In the top-right of the page, there will be an 'edit' button. Find and press this button.

  5. You will see a page which looks very similar to the 'create' page. On this page, you can enter your changes to the page.

  6. Below the edit box, there is a box labelled 'Summary'. Please fill this in with a brief summary of what you have done. This is not required, however, it is helpful for other people if you fill this in.

  7. Press 'save page' to finish editing the page.

  8. You have successfully edited a page!

Adding images

Images help make pages easier to understand and nicer to look at. However, because of the sensitive nature of some images found online, you must have an account to post an image.

  1. Log in to the site.
  2. On the left-hand side of all pages, there will be a link saying 'Upload file'. Press this link.

  3. Press 'Choose File', and select an image from your computer. Only PNG, GIF, JPG and JPEG files will be accepted. These are the most common image types used on computers.

  4. Feel free to change the destination filename and the summary.
  5. Once you have finished providing a file name and summary, press the 'Upload file' button at the bottom of the page.

  6. Remember the destination file name, and return to your page.
  7. Type the following text: [[File:Your_name_here.png]]. Replace 'Your_name_here.png' with whatever you set as the destination file name.

  8. Press the 'Save page' button.

  9. You have successfully added an image to your page!

Please remember, no inappropriate images are allowed on the site. Posting inappropriate images could result in your account being temporarily suspended, or even in your account being permanently blocked from the site. If you are not sure if an image is suitable, try to decide if it would be suitable to see on a film that was rated '12'. If you are still not sure, contact a member of the moderation team.
