The Words We Speak Should

The Words We Speak Should

A respectful conversation

2011, March- wk 1 (Grade 5)

The words we speak should

- Inspire

- Bring joy

- Lift up

- Comfort

- Encourage

- Help (physically, emotionally, spiritually)

- Reflect God’s love.

What can help me avoid saying the wrong words?

  • Knowing that God’s Holy Spirit is in me and I can ask Him to help me always say the right words and answer wisely in any situation. I should ask Him to help me never say any idle words (useless words) or any hurtful words.
  • Focusing my heart and thoughts on everything that is good and pure and true. I should always be focusing on God and His Word. My words reflect what’s in my heart.
  • Remembering that words are powerful. They can hurt others. Once I say something, I can’t take it back. But I can also use my words to help others, encourage them and reflect God’s love for them.
  • Sometimes it’s important to keep silent. If what I have to say isn’t good and won’t help build up other people, then I shouldn’t say it.

VERSE OF THE LESSON

“But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.” -Matthew 12:36

TO PRACTICE

This week, we should be very aware of every word we say.

  • At the end of every day, we should try to write down any wrong words we said, or any bad reactions we had in a conversation.
  • This can remind us of what we said wrong and help us not to say it again the next day.
  • We should ask the Holy Spirit to help us say every right and good word, and stop saying idle words.
  • We should keep in mind that words can hurt and bring down, the other person could still be hurt even if we apologize and they forgive us. This is why it’s better not to say the bad words in the first place.
  • We should try to keep our thoughts constantly on God, so that our hearts remain pure, and this way our words will also remain pure.
