JOB DESCIPTION – SURGERY MANAGER

The duties of the manager will include the following:

1. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Undertake reasonable duties connected with their role as requested.

Complete all duties in compliance with practice guidelines.

Update their skills and attend courses when requested to do so. Identifying their training needs to the partners.

Be familiar with all the areas of the surgery computer system.

Be polite and helpful at all times even under duress.

Attend team meetings and other meetings relevant to their job.

Maintain confidentiality concerning all aspects of the practice.

Ensure they are aware of/follow the Health & Safety guidelines for safe working.

Maintain high levels of personal cleanliness and hygiene in a clinical environment.

  1. PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT

Within your own surgery

To manage the recruitment of staff in line with the practice policy.

To administer and have initial responsibility for the practice disciplinary and grievance procedures

To provide support for staff and to promote teambuilding and team working within the individual sites and across the practice.

To promote effective communication amongst staff and partners.

To identify staff training needs and to identify and/or develop effective training programmes to meet them.

To `manage a comprehensive, fair and effective system of staff appraisal linked to staff development and training.

To manage attendance, annual leave and payroll information

  1. ORGANISATIONAL MANAGEMENT

To have overall responsibility for the smooth daily running of the surgery.

To oversee the working rotas of all staff including nursing staff to ensure adequate staffing levels at all times.

To maintain efficient and effective practice based systems for all administrative functions.

To administer the Practice Complaints Procedure

To administer general housekeeping arrangements, including maintenance of premises, equipment repair and replacement, cleaning, insurance and security.

To ensure the surgery complies with Health & Safety regulations.

Effectively manage local and practice wide organisational and operational changes, maintaining staff engagement

  1. PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT

To be aware of external factors in the practice locality likely to have a bearing on practice functions and to advise the Practice Manager accordingly.

  1. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY & AUDIT.

To have responsibility for identifying IT training needs of the partners and staff and to implement effective training programmes.

7. PRIMARY CARE ORGANISATION

Liaison with the current PCO as appropriate, including attendance at appropriate meetings.

  1. DISPENSING

Ensuring effective daily dispensing

Handling dispensing related complaints

Assessing and implementing training needs.

Containing the costs of dispensing.

  • To share responsibility for monitoring practice prescribing and feeding back results to the Practice Manager/ Partners.
  1. PRACTICE WIDE TASKS
  • To undertake ad hoc responsibilities as delegated from the Practice Manager and/ or Partners.
  • To undertake specific practice wide tasks such as Locum management, Meetings Management and Administration Management.
