The Story

One day, I went for a walk with the Scout Troop into the bush. We always go prepared for a change in the weather, and just as well too, because this day, the weather did some strange things!

At the start, it was quite chilly. (brush their faces or arms with ice blocks) We had to keep our sloppy joes on.

As the day warmed up, so a light breeze began to blow. (gently fan them with the hand fans)

Then the breeze really picked up and it was difficult to stay on the track. (strongly fan them with the hand fans) We decided to have lunch in the shelter of a big rock (stop fanning). This was the half-way point of our walk.

In the afternoon, we began to smell something that made us scared- and we had to hurry away from it- yes! It was a bushfire! (light the candles and waft them around)

As the afternoon went on, there was a southerly buster (hand fans) and guess what?? It began to RAIN!!! (squirt them lightly with water)

Little Feather’s Walk in the Forest adapted for an Indian Theme by Lyn Mann

The Story

One fine day, the Indian boy Little Feather went for a walk on his own in the forest. Now, that was not what his father had taught him to do! Indian children always had to go in groups when they left their village because of the wild animals and the changeable weather. But Little Feather loved to explore and just couldn’t wait for his friends this morning.

When he started out, it was quite chilly (brush their faces or arms with ice blocks) so he kept his poncho on.

As the day warmed up, so a light breeze began to blow. (fan them gently with the hand fans from one direction only)

Then the wind really picked up and it was difficult to stay on the track. (fan them really hard) He decided to take shelter beside a big rock (stop fanning). Little Feather ate some of the food he had in his bag.

This was the furthest he had ever been from his village. As he walked on he looked up into the tall pine trees which made a narrow path to follow through the thick branches (brush them with leaves). He wasn’t watching where he was going and bumped into a !!!(brush their faces/arms with a soft toy fur). Oh No! He started running back to the big rock as fast as he could go! Whew!!!

After a rest, he started back home. Into the afternoon he began to smell something that made him very scared- yes! It was a forest fire! (light the candles and waft them around) So he quickly turned around and ran for his village.

Little Feather had a long way to run to stay away from the forest fire.

As the afternoon went on, there was a change in the wind (vigorous hand fans from the other side) and he was safe!!

But guess what?? It began to RAIN!!! (squirt them lightly with water)
