International Matters – February 2015

For all
With a Japanese twist…
Congratulations to all the 160 Explorer Scouts and Network Members that took part in the London Monopoly Run on Saturday 21st February. There was a Japanese theme associated with the tasks, questions and visits made as the 37 teams travelled around the board. Inevitably, most visited the Japanese Embassy in Piccadilly; some viewed the jewellery at Mikimoto whilst others counted the colours of origami paper available at Muji’s in Oxford Street or drank Marusanai 100% Soy Drink by Leicester Square. Southwark Scout District HQ served as both JAIL and GO and we are grateful to the 8th St Marylebone Group for allowing us to use their HQ as START & FINISH.
Great use was made of Facebook to upload proof of visits to the 4 railway stations with the team mascot clearly visible. Every team had a Japanese Yen credit card and the outright winners were Team Tan’ni Saiko from the STAGS Jamboree Unit seen here meeting Yoda.
The winning team to take the Top Hat with ¥2,238,000 comprised:
Jordan Dutt, Knebworth ESU in Stevenage District
Fiona Burn, 2nd Hitchin
Macy Banks, 10th Harpenden
Will Rumble, 1st Leverstock Green in Hemel Hempstead District
Nick Gurteen, 9th Harpenden
Runners Up was Team Sika Black with ¥2,188,000 and the Tom Moore Network team from Stevenage who collected ¥2,218,000 came top in the Scout Network category.
Cerebus Network Team happened to bump into the UK Chief Commissioner Wayne Bulpitt and took an usie to prove it.
